Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Serves as designee of the Program Administrator/EC Director in providing direct contact with schools and other service providers in the county to facilitate provision of effective and evidence based instructional practices to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use the coaching model to establish a safe environment in which teachers can strive to improve their practices
  • Help teachers transfer what they learn about new practices to their classrooms
  • Observe classroom instruction to assist teachers
  • Provide classroom demonstration lessons of research based strategies as needed
  • Help teachers effectively use systemselected curricular programs including Language! Language! Live Letterland Number Worlds and TransMath
  • Provide staff development opportunities for teachers
  • Assist school administration and EC staffs with scheduling as needed
  • Assist in leading staff development in the areas of EC Curriculum and Instruction
  • Collaborate with school administration regarding EC curricular and instructional practices
  • Attend and participate in regularly planned meetings with the Exceptional Children Curriculum and Instruction Team
  • Attend and participate in EC Joint Staffing
  • Attend and participate in EC training and staff development
  • Facilitate communication between Exceptional Children and Regular Education teachers and personnel regarding language arts and math instruction of students with disabilities
  • Participate in the implementation of all components and requirements of the North Carolina State Improvement Project Reading and Math including student data collection parent engagement and survey collection Math and Reading Foundations fidelity checks Institute of Higher Education partnerships and collaboration with regular education initiatives
  • Communicate Exceptional Children reading and math instructional and student progress and all pertinent data to the NCSIP Reading and Math Coordinators
  • Maintain current documentation of interaction with teachers administrators and EC Curriculum and Instruction Team
  • Monitor reading writing and math progress of students with disabilities
  • Assist teachers with the effective use of multiple types of assessment data to guide instruction through appropriate IEP development and implementation progress monitoring and data driven instructional decisionmaking
  • Serve as an outside resource for Student Success Teams
  • Assist teachers with assessment and observation of students
  • Record observations of instruction for students with disabilities on a regular basis for the purpose of establishing and maintaining program implementation fidelity
  • Coach new and selected teachers with job embedded professional development to address areas of need in instruction
  • Stay abreast of all district state and federal initiatives policies procedures and statutes for education of students with disabilities
  • Research and provide support and staff development in the area of coteaching
  • Assist with EC Curriculum and Instruction Team assessment responsibilities as needed
  • Assist with EC Curriculum and Instruction Team Cluster Class responsibilities as needed

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs other work related duties as assigned

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certification in Special Education preferably with additional hours in special education law and or school administration
  • Five or more years experience teaching exceptional children
  • Certification in Mentor and NCEES Training
  • Strong interpersonal and conferencing skills

MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment such as computers copiers and a variety of audiovisual equipment etc. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. Light Work usually requires walking standing and bending to a significant degree.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional structural or composite characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data people or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions assignments and/or directions from superiors.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence reports handbooks forms newsletters journals procedures lists etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence simple reports forms instructional materials etc. using prescribed format.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to explain procedures to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently standard English.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of descriptive statistics statistical inference and statistical theory.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length width and shape.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office and audiovisual equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office and audiovisual equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone.
