Job Description
The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will be a pivotal leader within the Product Reliability Engineering (PRE) specifically supporting the Consumer Authentication space. As a senior member of the PRE team you will not only be responsible for the availability performance efficiency change management monitoring emergency response and capacity planning for various production systems but also for driving strategic initiatives and mentoring junior team members.
You will have the opportunity to lead architectural reviews identify design gaps detect problems perform root cause analysis and contribute through innovative technical solutions that ensure system availability and team continuity. Your role will require leveraging your advanced creativity and critical thinking skills to enhance current workflows and processes through automation toil reduction and integrated technical solutions. You will also be responsible for leading and supporting various crossfunctional projects solving complex technological problems and maintaining the availability resiliency and performance of high throughput businesscritical Fintech APIs.
Responsibilities:
Provide expertlevel 24x7x365 application support across multiple systems and technologies including rotational oncall support during nonbusiness hours.
Lead the application of configuration updates operational break fixes and other proactive maintenance activities to ensure the availability of production systems.
Design develop and implement advanced tools and frameworks for automation toil reduction and process improvement.
Deeply understand application architecture and transaction flows to provide highlevel support to internal and external teams.
Lead efforts to remediate cybersecurity findings to ensure compliance with audit regulations.
Oversee security patching following a followthesun model ensuring minimal disruption to services.
Collaborate closely with development and support teams for advanced problem identification and resolution.
Provide expert verification for Visarelated services such as certificate installations and verifications and Cardinal services ensuring systems are correctly configured compliant and operational.
Manage the lifecycle of standard products owned and used by PRE providing strategic direction and improvements.
Lead functional and technical meetings throughout the development lifecycle providing seniorlevel insights and guidance.
Provide direct and advanced support during production deployments.
Manage and support incremental code pushes to production ensuring changes are deployed in manageable lowrisk increments to minimize disruption and facilitate rollbacks if necessary.
Act as a senior change approver ensuring that changes to the production environment are thoroughly reviewed and approved.
Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to ensure new applications adhere to the security and high availability standards of Visa while meeting operational handoff requirements.
Maintain accountability to ensure proper controls are in place for monitoring and observability of systems with the goal of 99.99 uptime.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior SREs and other team members fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
Qualifications :
Basic Qualifications
2 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or an Advanced
Degree (e.g. Masters MBA JD MD or PhD)
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive relevant work experience in IT Operations Systems Engineering SRE
or similar discipline.
Advanced handson experience with Linux/Unix administration and complex
network troubleshooting via CLI.
Proven experience supporting and debugging distributed enterprise
applications on Linux platforms (Java/Tomcat).
Indepth familiarity with logging and monitoring solutions at scale (Splunk
Grafana).
Strong understanding of web security and protocols HTTP/S SSL/TLS DNS
and networking fundamentals to support enterprise APIs.
Demonstrated experience with multiple scripting languages or technologies
used for enterprise automation (Ansible Powershell Bash Python).
Advanced working knowledge of high availability models load balancing (f5
GTM LTM) techniques and proxy solutions.
Strong understanding of encryption protocols for data in transit (clientserver
communication) and data at rest (SSL certificate & key management).
Proven experience administrating Kubernetes deployment scaling load
balancing and orchestration.
Advanced understanding of JVM performance tuning and the ability to analyze
thread dumps and heap dumps.
Demonstrated leadership in driving strategic initiatives and mentoring junior
team members.
Proven ability to lead complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high
priority projects simultaneously.
