Job Description
Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a studentfocused dedicatedParaeducatorto assist teachers and other professional practitionersby providing instructional support in selfcontained classrooms with students who have special needs (Autism Developmental Delays Multiple Disabilities Learning Support and Behavior Support) whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
- Assist in maintaining a safe nurturing and healthy atmosphere which may include assisting students with social skill development personal hygiene toiletry needs/toilet training
- Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
- Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files
- Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
- Uses special skills (i.e. sign language transliterating advanced computer training) to assist in twoway communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
- Performs additional noninstructional duties including but not limited to cafeteria duty bus duty hall duty and office duty

Education and Experience:
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of two 2 years working with children within an instructional educational or related setting
Special Requirements:
- Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training as appropriate annually.
Employment Terms:As hourly or seasonal support the employees work schedule will be structured on an hourly or as needed basis. This position is evaluated annually.
