The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre (Maples) provides specialized community programs as well as livein treatment services (serving the entire province) and works with youth in British Columbia with significant psychiatric and behavioraldifficulties ages 12 to 17 as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or unfit to stand trial. Additional services include community consultation service training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature. Through a multidisciplinary approach our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.
Onsite programs operate 24/7 providing a period of clinical evaluation stabilization intervention and followup in a structured setting as well as support for families/caregivers and the development of a plan of care. Program areas operate with a multidisciplinary team of social workers psychiatrists psychologists nurses and childcare counsellors.
Community programs are similarly configured but delivered within the home community. Constellation of services offered include medical/psychiatric evaluation; multidisciplinary assessment and plans of care; family therapy education and support; educational opportunities through Burnaby School District; vocational recreational and social interactive experiences; ongoing outreach and respite services; ongoing program evaluation.
The Role
Under the supervision of a Child Care Counsellor R21 or Nurse 5 the Child Care Counsellor R18 as part of the multidisciplinary team is responsible for providing assessment care planning treatment discharge and community services for severely thought disordered or conduct disordered youths admitted to the Centre in accordance with established principles and guidelines of practice; to perform various administrative duties which support program objectives; and to perform other related duties as required.

These position has full time onsite requirements.
There are currently 5 temporary opportunities available until May 31 2026.
An eligibility list may be established for future temporary vacancies.
These As and When Needed positions hours may be unpredictable. The Maples operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Successful applicants must be available for at least two days between Friday and Sunday. Shifts include 7:30 am7:30 pm and 7:30 pm7:30 am.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
