Are you curious about interpreting in educational settings? Have you ever interpreted for a school? As interpreters, we are constantly learning. Our primary job function is to orally render a message from language A into language B. We do follow a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. We are accurate. We interpret everything that is said, and we keep all the information shared confidential. We study terminology, create glossaries, and learn about interpreting techniques to better perform our jobs.
Yet, when we start working in a new area of specialization, sometimes we forget that understanding the setting and the processes of the organizations and/or institutions we interpret for is equally important.
At PGLS we set our interpreters up to succeed. While we work with experienced interpreters who are certified in certain areas, we also know that when certifications are not available, it is even more important for us to facilitate access to learning opportunities.
