Senior Automation Engineer

Job Description

I. Major Functions

Primarily responsible for SCADA and HMI (local panels) software development and maintenance.

Working with the project managers and other engineers ensuring that the development of all software is done as per schedule and in accordance with KDD standards.

Control all aspects of software development including gathering requirements, making software descriptions, code execution, software acceptance and final execution.

II. Basic Duties & Responsibilities

Commissioning and Startup Work with commissioning crew to complete instrument loop checks

Together with operations, commission the process equipment and the new control system

Provide coverage during startup Back End Loading (Feed)

Development of control software and operator graphics Development of simulation software / checkout graphics

Update and configuration of historian, alarm database and manufacturing reports Execution of HMI tags testing Execution of system backups

Administration of the control system (updates, licensing, cooperation with external SCADA/HMI support providers)

Front End Loading Completion of the factory acceptance tests with managers or other engineers (FAT)

Work with other engineers or managers (e.g., process engineer, instrument engineer) to determine the project and control requirements

Support other engineers or managers (e.g., process engineer, instrument engineer) to find source of existing faults and find and implement solutions to improve the control system

Detailed Design Develop or support development of functional requirement specification (FRS) for the system

Develop or support development of user requirement specification (URS) for the system

Create detailed requirement specifications (DRS)

Determine the type of process control equipment and configuration to be used

Conduct risk assessment and mitigation plans

Document implementation / startup plan for the control strategy and specific hardware

Determine testing scenarios and oversee the simulation of the control system to test the strategy and improvements

Project Leadership

Establish project goals and planning

Create the process control overview for the project

Estimate the process control cost and schedule for the project

Complete technical review of the team members work and provide coaching / corrective feedback Assemble final process control costs associated with project

General Responsibilities

Performs any duty assigned by the line

Processes any cross training as mandated by the line

Alternates for colleagues when requested by the management Comply with Health

Safety and Environment regulations and working practices of KDD and the State of Kuwait when carrying out duties
