Supervises and manages the daily activities of configuration and operation of business systems which may be mainframe, mini, or client/server based. Provide Intermediate “hands on” work experience in support of installations, repair, and troubleshooting or maintenance of communications systems or equipment. Must have the technical knowledge to solve complex problems, understand the interrelationships of circuits, and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of communications systems or equipment.
Performs a variety of difficult assignments associated with monitoring and controlling Strategic DSN telephone and switch tasks which include: Provide administration, management, operation, and maintenance of telephone switch and associated equipment. Supported capabilities include integrated voicemail systems, remote switching systems, optical carrier systems, rectifiers and rectifier battery systems, inverters, power supplies, UPS, or other telephone sub-systems.
Support equipment installation, placement, or relocation, including system checkout, test, and maintenance. Subtasks shall include: Operate the telephone switch and associated hardware respectively IAW manufacturer manuals; Start and configure the switch, respond to console messages, execute available diagnostic routines, and monitor system status for each switch; Power down and start up the system(s): mount and remove disks, cartridges, or tapes; select input/output files; load programs, files, and database(s); and perform recoveries from machine stops or malfunctions. Perform disk, cartridge, or tape backup of the switch memory every seven calendar days. Perform system/data administration on all equipment and software.
