Role Summary
As a member of the Precision Pricing / UW group the Data Science Advisor is responsible for enabling Data Science within The Cigna Group with demonstrable aptitude in Data Science (i) Technical Skills (ii) Leadership (iii) Scope & Impact (iv) Influence.
This role will report directly to Data Science Director of the US Employer Precision Underwriting/Pricing Program a critical segment priority. The Data Science Advisor will play an important role in advancing the integration of new technologies including AI and Machine Learning throughout the Underwriting Quoting Process. The role will collaborate closely with Actuarial Underwriting and Data & Analytics teams to drive profitable growth and enhance our underwriting and pricing strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop advanced statistical and machine learning models to support underwriting and pricing initiatives
Design experiments using innovative modeling techniques and data sources to assess effectiveness at predicting claims costs and other drivers
Deepen understanding of client and/or customerlevel variability through use of statistical and ML modeling techniques
Assess existing data infrastructure and influence strategic decisionmaking around future data investments
Provide recommendations to leadership based on data analysis and business insights.
Build and maintain strong relationships with various stakeholders (data science COE pricing underwriting etc.
Qualifications:
Data Science Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in ML statistics python or R SQL version control (e.g. Git) health care data (e.g. claims EHR)
Knows and follows best coding and software engineering practices
Successfully completes technical project components with limited guidance
Familiarity with deploying machine learning and predictive models to production and cloud environments
Pricing/UW business background and actuarial experience preferred.
Leadership in Data Science:
Understands how assigned work is related to purpose of the overall project
Independently identifies project roadblocks and solutions
Seeks to understand the health insurance domain
Scope and Impact:
Documents the business considerations methodology process code and results associated with their work
Collaborates to deliver clear and welldeveloped presentations for both technical and business audiences
Consistently communicates decisions considerations and needs for support
Receives and responds to feedback in a professional and appropriate manner
Level of Influence:
Present technical topics and results to nontechnical stakeholders
Communicate and gather domain knowledge from nontechnical stakeholders
