FullTime AM: 5 8hour shifts per week
FullTime AM: 4 10hour shifts per week
FullTime AM: 3 12hour shifts per week
FullTime PM: 5 8hour shifts per week

Our surgical department is one of the largest in the country with more than 62 stateoftheart operating suites in multiple locations. Surgical technologists are important members of the care team. At UAB Medicine a surgical tech works alongside nurses certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) anesthesiologists and worldrenowned surgeons to maintain and prepare instrumentation and equipment helping cases run efficiently and allowing us to provide the highest quality of care. Although technical expertise is important a surgical tech must also be compassionate meet the needs of patients and treat them like they are family. We support our new techs through a comprehensive orientation process as well as robust training and development opportunities. We encourage you to take advantage of our continuing education; employees receive 100 tuition assistance at UAB through our Educational Assistance Program and we also assist with certification. Opportunities are available for certified and noncertified surgical technologists.

Job Description:
To scrub and assist surgical team during basic surgical procedures. To prepare and maintain the environment medical equipment and supplies for surgical procedures. To follow hospital regulations and industry procedures regarding patient care. To preoperatively prepare patient. To transport patient to and from the operating room as required. Preferred Skills: A strong background in vascular and neuro.
Graduate of a Surgical Technologist program or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Certified upon completion of the Surgical Technologist program or eligible to sit for certification within six months of being hired. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
