Job Description

Looking for an opportunity to further your career with a topranked globally positioned firm AECOM is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our highly collaborative and motivated staff in our Arlington VA offices Building Engineering practice. It is an opportunity to apply your talents to some of the worlds most challenging interesting and meaningful projects in an environment committed to excellence in innovation technical quality and client service. The Structural Engineer will perform the following duties:

This person will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Lead the preparation of deliverables and products such as presentation materials calculations drawings specifications reports and cost estimates related to structural systems including structural steel reinforced concrete posttensioned concrete masonry wood and timber for commercial and governmental facilities
  • Deliver complete accurate and coordinated project design assignments within time and budget parameters while satisfying client contractual obligations
  • Explore creative approaches to address and solve design challenges
  • Perform field investigation for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents
  • Perform construction administration duties such as shop drawing review RFI responses construction inspections and responding to client requests
  • Work within a project team environment coordinate work with other project disciplines participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
  • Manage multiple projects on a daily basis
  • Maintain and organize all projectrelated documentation plan and organize work by developing work plans
  • Work independently and make technical decisions based on building code interpretation as well as company client and industrystandard practices
  • Assist department in developing standards and maintaining current code and practice knowledge
  • Perform quality assurance/quality control checking of structural design documents developed by fellow engineers including design calculations and drawings
  • Mentor less experienced structural engineers and support career growth
  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for the team
  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate highquality costeffective work by others
  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements and develop proposals

    Qualifications :

    Minimum Requirements

    • BS in Structural Civil or Architectural Engineering with a Structural emphasis and six 6 of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
    • Valid Civil/Structural Professional Engineer (P.E. license recognized by a state licensing board
    • Due to the nature of the work U.S. Citizenship is required
    • Professional experience in the use of structural analysis software for designing whole structural building systems such as RAM Structural Systems ETABS SAP2000 Safe etc.
    • Experience using Revit in a professional setting is required

    Preferred Requirements

    • Eight 8 or more years of experience with an engineering firm designing structural systems for commercial institutional and government facilities
    • Masters degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis
    • Has a security clearance or able to obtain one
    • The ability to work with interpret and apply national and local building codes
    • Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations spreadsheets and report writing
    • Strong written communication presentation and client interface skills
    • Ability to take responsibility for given tasks with limited supervision while proactively developing standard practices and new techniques
