We are seeking a Process Engineer to join our Biosolids & Industrial Wastewater Process team focused on developing and implementing biological treatment solutions for customers across North America. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background with specific expertise in aerobic and/or anaerobic biological treatment technologies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on innovative treatment solutions for industrial and municipal customers contributing to environmental sustainability and water resource management across North America.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the successful sale design startup and operation of biosolids and/or industrial treatment systems for North American customers ensuring optimal performance and client satisfaction.
- Lead client meetings and conduct site visits to assess project requirements provide recommendations and foster strong client relationships.
- Design develop and optimize advanced wastewater treatment processes leveraging various technologies such as membrane bioreactors (MBR) biological nutrient removal (BNR) low and high rate anaerobic digestion (AD) processes and biogas upgrading technologies.
- Prepare detailed process designs including process flow diagrams (PFDs) mass balances and equipment sizing and selection. Act as a system integrator combining designs from multiple unit processes to create cohesive flowsheets.
- Advise and collaborate with crossfunctional teams on piping & instrumentation drawings (P&IDs) control narratives equipment and instrumentation selection safety and regulatory considerations.
- Create process guarantees and performance test protocols effectively managing associated risks and ensuring client expectations are met.
- Lead biological system startups (seeding) and performance testing
- Design and oversee pilot test plans to evaluate new processes and support system design.
- Provide technical support recommendations and troubleshooting for operating systems
- Share technical expertise in industry forums conferences and publications to position Veolia
WTS as a leader in the municipal and industrial markets.
Qualifications :
Core Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in an accredited Engineering or related field
- At least 5 years of related experience in the design operation or startup of biological treatment solutions for industrial or municipal customers
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients and team members
- Proven track record of effectively collaborating and building strong partnerships with teams and customers
- Willingness to travel periodically throughout North America
Useful skills and abilities
- Aerobic and/or anaerobic biological wastewater design experience using some or all of the following processes: membrane bioreactors (MBR) biological nutrient removal (BNR) low and high rate anaerobic digestion processes (AD) thermal hydrolysis processes (THP) biogas upgrading technologies
- Knowledge of any the following technologies is an asset: oil/water separation solids separation heating and cooling systems dewatering ozone reverse osmosis ion exchange evaporators crystallizers food waste reception digestate treatment
- Experience with P&ID development equipment sizing & selection control strategies startup operations and troubleshooting safety and regulatory compliance
- Biological modeling tools such as BioWin GPSX SIMBA SUMO etc.
- Professional Engineers License
- Critical and creative thinking and ability to evaluate among numerous options with good judgement
- Troubleshooting and problemsolving skills
