As part of this initiative the Quarry project focuses on the transition of clinker production at Obourg from a wet process using chalk to a dry process using limestone. This switch involves the extraction and processing of limestone rich in calcium carbonate from our deposits on both banks of the Escaut River spanning the municipalities of Antoing and Tournai (Belgium). The processed limestone will be transported from Vaulx (Tournai) to Obourg by train. Significant infrastructure developments including railway connections and upgrades have already been undertaken in the Tournaisis region specifically in Vaulx. This project represents an investment up to 50 million euros encompassing limestone crushing transfer to an intermediate storage area and loading into trains.
