OVERVIEW


Vertex is currently seeking a fulltime Project Manager Liability Management to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing upstream oil and gas industrial projects downstream and midstream programs and other programs/projects across Alberta and Saskatchewan that require assessment contaminant mitigation monitoring and/or removal compliance reporting and reclamation and site closure. The role will be responsible and accountable for liability management programs in accordance with Vertex guidelines and providing technical mentorship and Project Management support to staff under your care and control.

This role will focus on management of of existing programs/projects day to day client interactions clients and supporting intermediate and junior staff executing scopes of work under your care and control (liability management).

Typical work scopes carried out by the Liability Management team include development of work plans and cost estimates conducting assessment and remediation work spill response and remediation reclamation site inspections detailed site assessments and/or submission of reclamation certificate applications. The successful individual will play a critical role in driving liability management programs in a costeffective and pragmatic manner that exceeds our clients expectations.


CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS


  • Diploma or higher education related to environmental sciences biology or other related discipline
  • Currently poses a professional designation applicable for conducting professional sign off in Alberta sign off in British Columbia and/or Saskatchewan is considered an asset
  • Minimum 8 years in the environmental industry with experience as a well as management oversight of the following:
    • Phase I and Phase II program
    • Remediation
    • Management of complex contaminated sites/programs (support SST /risk/Tier 2
    • Groundwater monitoring
    • Spill response
    • Estimating and developing reclamation plans for wellsites facilities and other disturbances
    • Detailed Site Assessments & Reclamation Certificate Applications
    • Vegetation management/reclamation site inspections
  • Project management experience cost estimates scheduling budget tracking client interactions and communications
  • Experience in supporting a highperforming team and collaborating with Vertex leadership and other senior staff on growth and development of the liability management team
  • Experience in the upstream midstream and downstream oil and gas industry
  • Strong time management communication and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of contaminated sites and reclamation regulations in Alberta and Saskatchewan working knowledge of contaminated sites management in northeast British Columbia is considered an asset
  • Strong leadership/mentorship skills to support staff on all liability management work scopes


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership & Personnel Management
    • Foster a positive team focused culture and inclusive work environment to support continual improvement and growth of our technical teams and support services
    • Mentor and coach junior and intermediate environmental staff on all aspects of liability management projects to develop and grow teams and individual skill sets.
    • Work collaboratively with other Vertex Managers and Project Managers to effectively and safely schedule staff and resources to address client workloads
    • Active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs is expected as well as supporting the teams in safety excellence for all projects and programs under your care and control
      • Project/Program Management Expectations and Relationships
        • Maintain and build relationships with existing clients and work towards value added opportunities with existing clients
        • Explore support and foster new initiatives and opportunities to expand services to new clients
        • Accountable for performance of all liability management programs/projects under your care and control
        • Accountable for financial performance associated with programs and projects executed for clients under your care and control (WIP management rate evaluations total revenue etc.
        • Advise clients regarding strategy and approach for project work and delivery of technical documents and communicate progress

      • Technical Requirements
        • Working knowledge understand remain current and ability to interpret environmental regulations guidelines and standards as required by Vertex and client base
        • Working knowledge in SST and Tier 1 and 2 applications in Alberta for upstream oil and gas applications
        • Expert knowledge and understanding of OneStop for management and application of documents required for upload
        • Ability to navigate regulatory requirements and provide design solutions mitigation strategies risk and opportunities and anticipated timing to clients
        • Provide technical guidance to clients and staff in your areas of practice and seek advice of internal experts to address technical requirements as needed.
        • Review and signoff of technical reports in your area of practice

      LOCATION

      This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park Calgary Downtown or Calgary Blackfoot office. A hybrid work schedule is available for this role. A hybrid role allows for flexibility with no mandated number of days required at the office location. However Vertex encourages Project Managers to work towards office attendance with their teams 23 days per week.

      ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

      • Salaried compensation is commensurate with education and experience and includes:
      • 11 stat holidays (applicable after 30 days of employment)
      • 6 personal days provided annually. These days reset every calendar year. These days are to be utilized in alignment with Vertex s policy for personnel days
      • A comprehensive benefit package is provided 5050 cost sharing)

      • All professional dues and PD covered by Vertex with allowances for courses conferences etc.
