Summary of Job Duties:
This person will work under the supervision and direction of the Flow Cytometry supervisor. Duties include processing staining and analyzing routine specimens. They will be expected to keep all instrumentation in good working order and identify and notify the supervisor of instrument malfunctions. They should be able to aid in instrument repair. They should be able to identify abnormal or discrepant results. They will have limited participation in student teaching and assisting of other personnel rotating through the section. They will have limited administrative duties.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Medical Technology Medical Laboratory Sciences or Bachelor of Science in related discipline.
- ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible (Certification must be obtained within one year of employment).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous clinical laboratory experience flow cytometry experience preferred
- ASCP certification or equivalent
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
- Use patient identifiers to match information on requisition and labels.
- Order specimens print labels status specimens complete requisitions.
- Work with referral labs to resolve any questions or problems with specimens. Notify clients of any test cancellations. Obtain results from referral labs.
- Enter results from referral labs into the patient chart.
- Works closely daily with internal clinic or hospital staff and various departments to resolve issues with patient blood draws.
- Maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.
- Contacts the appropriate provider if a patient does not have active lab orders in EPIC or if there are questions about patient orders.
- Work with clients to clarify orders obtain requisitions and coordinate specimens with special collection or shipping instructions.
- Gather all specimens for send out to Reference Labs.
- Assure adequate inventory of shipping supplies and order supplies as needed.
- Distribute supplies to clients as needed.
- Utilizes proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to ensure personal safety. Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adheres to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts report shortages and problems to supervisor or manager as they occur.
- Perform nonpatient facing duties such as stocking supplies sanitizing filing answering phones and utilizing email as appropriate.
- Timely completion of all continuing education annual education and/or training as required for position.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable hospital policy state federal and other regulatory requirements.
- Performs other duties as needed.
