Key Relationships

Reporting to the Quality Manager this position works closely with the R&D Operations and Finishing & Packaging Departments for inprocess and final product compliance. The McIntosh Lab Technicians also test sucralose product from other facilities within Tate & Lyle.

Role Purpose

  • The scope of this job includes instrumental analysis of process streams and finished products utilizing technology such as HPLC GC FTIR ICP pH XRF IC and titrations etc. The data generated is used to support the manufacturing processes and for quality control of finished products. Data entry may be made into Labware LIMS and SAP. Data sharing is also conducted by hard copy fax phone or spreadsheets. This position requires rotating 12 hour shifts and shift flexibility to cover vacations and other absences.

  • Employees may be assigned to perform any task in the Plant which they can perform safely.

  • Responsible for reporting all incidents defects and hazards

  • Reporting all incidents defects hazards and inadequacies of procedures so that appropriate review and corrective action can be taken
  • Suggesting improvements and being active in the general improvement of all systems and methods of work to ensure EHS Supports activities and services are carried out in a safe environmentally responsible reliable and cost effective manner

Main Accountabilities

  • Experience in calibrations and troubleshooting of analytical equipment
  • Familiarity with quality systems in a regulated environment including GMP GLP FCC USP requirements
  • Familiarity with LIMS systems and chromatography data collection systems. Labware LIMS and Empower a plus
  • A team player that possesses strong analytical oral/written communication and computer skills.
  • A customer focus with understanding of customer needs
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize with attention to detail
  • Ability to work in fastpaced environment/adapt to changing procedures with minimal supervision

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to safely perform the following tasks:

  • Lifting of up to 50 pounds without mechanical assistance
  • Use of lab tools above shoulders reaching/twisting/lifting
  • Ability to perform nightly maintenance
  • Lift and position 4 liter mobile phase to an overhead station
  • Ability to stand and work for greater than 2 hours
  • Removal of waste from an above the waist counter to a transfer wagon
  • Prepping and running samples and instrument manipulation in small areas
  • Independently perform the analytical lab duties on night shift coverage

Performance Measures

The incumbent will be measured against site EHS Quality Production Reliability and Leadership goals.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a science related field or equivalent experience in a fastpaced laboratory environment
  • Minimum of 2 years lab experience of general laboratory duties
  • Some systemsbased experience in Document Control is an asset (i.e.. SharePoint)
  • Strong computer skills esp. Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Able to coordinate and organize multiple deliverables at a high level
  • Must be wellorganized attentive to detail and efficient.
  • Able to communicate well verbally and orally.
  • Able to focus on a task for long periods of time.
  • Must be skilled in internal and external customer service.
