Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Bath and North East Somerset to assist with the appointment of a Principal Planning Officer on a 10month contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 23.75 29.78 per hour

Summary:

The Planning Officer will play a key role in ensuring development proposals align with legislation regulations and local and national planning policies. The role requires providing specialist advice on planning matters supervising junior staff and contributing to the development of a sound Development Plan. The Planning Officer will also be responsible for assessing planning applications providing expert advice and representing the Council at public hearings and inquiries.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on complex and contentious planning applications ensuring compliance with regulations and local development needs.
  • Represent the Council as an expert witness in public examinations and hearings.
  • Address complex public and stakeholder inquiries providing timely and constructive advice.
  • Offer expert guidance on planning applications to ensure alignment with the Development Plan.
  • Participate in and lead public meetings planning committees and consultations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Planning or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Membership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience managing complex planning applications and development cases.
  • Proven experience as an expert witness in planning inquiries and hearings.
  • Strong understanding of planning legislation policies and procedures.
  • Experience in presenting complex applications to Planning Committees.
