Job Description

The Emergency Management Intergovernmental Relations Liaison is integral to the emergency services function of the City of Merritt supporting the collaboration between the City Thompson Nicola Regional District emergency services and the Indigenous communities of the Nicola Valley.  

This role involves Indigenous community outreach emergency services planning and implementation relationship building and the facilitation of learning opportunities to promote collaboration of emergency services to strengthen and support our communities.  The incumbent will utilize their research and communication skills to prepare vital emergency preparedness plans and documentation.

The Emergency Management Intergovernmental Relations Liaison is a rewarding position focused on building and fostering Indigenous community partnerships in order to advance shared objectives within the emergency services sector. The ideal candidate is culturally aware knowledgeable about First Nations history and rights in Canada and supportive in communication and growth in advancing the City of Merritts commitment to reconciliation.


Qualifications :

  • Post secondary education associated with Indigenous relations along with a minimum of 1year of experience.
  • Emergency Management experience or training is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A valid BC (Class 5 drivers license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

For new hires and those working in designated positions of trust including those working directly with vulnerable persons employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information check.  In accordance and pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights Code qualified Indigenous applicants may receive preferential consideration.


Additional Information :

This position requires 35 hours per week.  The 12month term position may be extended or shortened with two weeks written notice.  The rate of pay is set at $70000 annually and includes group benefits.
