Overview
The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and optimizing daily logistics operations including transportation warehousing inventory management sample retention and waste management. This role ensures seamless coordination between internal departments clients and vendors while upholding compliance with safety health and regulatory requirements. Additionally the Logistics Supervisor is responsible for training their team updating procedures and ensuring risk assessments are in place.
Responsibilities
1. Transportation & Logistics Coordination
- Oversee the movement of goods including sample collections and deliveries laboratory consumables and other supplies.
- Manage delivery schedules and routes to optimize efficiency and cost.
- Ensure professional and timely of all collections and deliveries to meet client expectations.
- Supervise drivers ensuring vehicle maintenance compliance and route tracking.
- Implement and manage dispatch and tracking systems.
2. Warehouse Inventory & Sample Retention Management
- Oversee stock control processes for laboratory consumables reagents and essential supplies.
- Ensure proper tracking and documentation of incoming and outgoing inventory.
- Implement best practices to prevent shortages or overstocking.
- Ensure sample retention processes comply with laboratory policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor sample storage conditions to prevent contamination degradation or loss.
3. Waste & Hazardous Waste Management
- Oversee general and hazardous waste management in accordance with environmental and regulatory standards.
- Ensure safe disposal of expired chemicals biological waste and other hazardous materials.
- Maintain records of hazardous waste disposal and compliance with waste management regulations.
- Conduct regular audits of waste management procedures and implement improvements where necessary.
4. Training & Compliance
- Train logistics team members (drivers storemen stock controllers and administrative staff) on all relevant operational procedures including safety and compliance.
- Ensure all procedures are documented up to date and aligned with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Conduct risk assessments for logistics operations updating them as necessary to mitigate potential hazards.
- Work with Health & Safety officers to ensure compliance with HSE regulations.
- Conduct refresher training sessions for staff on standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
5. Team Management & Supervision
- Lead and manage logistics staff assigning tasks and ensuring performance expectations are met.
- Provide coaching and performance feedback to improve efficiency and service levels.
- Resolve conflicts and maintain a positive working environment.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and enforce company policies.
6. Logistics Strategy & Process Optimization
- Develop and implement operational procedures to improve efficiency productivity and service delivery.
- Identify inefficiencies and implement datadriven improvements.
- Maintain accurate logistics and inventory reports for management review.
- Collaborate with procurement to ensure costeffective purchasing and supplier management.
7. Vendor & Client Relations
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors transport providers and service partners.
- Work with procurement to negotiate contracts and optimize logistics costs.
- Ensure seamless communication with clients regarding collections deliveries and consumable supplies.
- Handle client queries and complaints related to logistics professionally and efficiently.
Qualifications :
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Preferred Diploma or Degree in Logistics Supply Chain Management or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in logistics warehousing or transport management preferably in a laboratory or food industry setting.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of inventory management dispatch and logistics software (beneficial).
- Experience with waste management processes including hazardous waste handling.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership people management and conflict resolution abilities.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a fastpaced environment.
- Proactive problemsolving and decisionmaking capabilities.
- Compliance Knowledge:
- Understanding of health safety and environmental regulations related to transportation waste management and warehouse operations.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and updating procedures.
