Performing MRI Scans
Conduct MRI Examinations: Operate MRI machines to capture high-quality images of the body, especially of soft tissues such as the brain, muscles, spine, and joints.
Positioning Patients: Properly position patients on the MRI table, ensuring the area of interest is aligned with the scanner. Positioning must be precise to obtain clear and accurate images.
Adjust Equipment Settings: Adjust the MRI machine settings (e.g., magnetic field strength, pulse sequences) to obtain the most accurate and appropriate images for each patient and type of exam.
. Patient Preparation and Care
Explain the Procedure: Educate patients on the MRI procedure, including how long it will take, the importance of staying still, and addressing any concerns about the process.
Prepare Patients: Ensure that patients remove any metal objects (e.g., jewelry, watches, piercings) before the procedure, as MRI machines use strong magnets.
Monitor Patient Comfort: Monitor patients during the MRI procedure, as the machine can be noisy and may take several minutes to complete. Offer reassurance to alleviate any anxiety or discomfort.
Screen for Contraindications: Screen patients for any contraindications for MRI, such as implanted medical devices (e.g., pacemakers, cochlear implants), metallic implants, or pregnancy.
Ensuring Image Quality and Accuracy
Optimize Image Quality: Adjust MRI scanner settings to capture the highest possible image quality for accurate diagnosis.
Repeat Scans if Necessary: If an image is unclear or requires additional views, the technologist may need to reposition the patient or perform another scan.
Monitor and Review Images: Review images during the procedure to ensure clarity and quality, ensuring that the images are sufficient for radiologists to interpret.
