To act as a Senior Operational Telecoms Designer within our dedicated Telecoms team. The post holder will undertake the production of Operational Telecoms design as part of the dedicated Telecoms design team as well as support their and other teams with design related activities. This role will involve the specification development and supporting our customers to a right first time approach.
With a strong understanding of the technical and business aspects of railway operational telecoms the Senior Telecoms Designer will participate in multidisciplinary project teams providing technical support to the discipline in terms of production and mentoring where required. Support the Telecoms Design Manager / Associate Director and other members of the team with additional duties as required such as progress/programme reporting tendering new works production of guidance notes etc.
Engagement with other staff necessary to discharge these duties will be as follows:

Duties and Responsibilities
Project and Quality Delivery/Staff Development
- Produce deliverables in accordance with client and governance requirements for Operational Telecoms and associated projects
- Design and verify Operational Telecoms projects and to deliver to defined timescales
- Bid preparation to support tendering of new works
- Mentor junior members of the Telecoms discipline
- Maintain knowledge of current practices processes standards and emerging technologies in relation to the Telecoms discipline
- Produce and verify Operational Telecoms designs and documentation at a consistent and acceptable level of quality

- Partake in lessons learned reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
- Ensure that the technical processes and procedures for the delivery of discipline outputs are followed
- Ensure that all skills and technical competence supporting documentation is kept up to date e.g. CPD log Authority to Work Company CV mandatory training etc.
- Work closely with Design Manager / Associate Director to support them with all appropriate tasks
- Maintain and develop good relationships with internal and external customers industry associations suppliers and Partners
Health Safety and Environmental

- Promote health and safety best practice to Discipline teams though regular team briefs
- Ensure that procedures and systems are in place so that all projects are undertaken in a safe manner and project designs are compliant with health and safety legislation.
- Taking an active part in monthly HSQE meetings through sharing relevant health & safety information with others and identifying and prioritising HSQE issues that affect rail and the wider business.
- Reporting on unforeseen risks that may emerge during the course of their work using the appropriate systems
- Identify and manage risks throughout the design process and project lifecycle
Qualifications :
- Master of Engineering degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent in the relevant field from any global organization (e.g. Institution of Civil Engineers UK)
- 15 Years Experience.
- Experience of delivering and reviewing Telecoms design as part of multidisciplinary rail systems projects for Operational Telecoms.
- A strong design/knowledge and experience of the following areas
- Operational Telecoms systems of all generations
- Experience working with NRT and TENE
- Operational Concentrators
- FTN and FTNX
- IP Networking
- Voice over IP
- Lineside Phones
- Level Crossing Phones
- PAN 61

- Railway (GSMR) Network
- Spot Radio systems
- Commitment to professional development and retaining the highest standard of Telecoms design technical skills
- The ability to be able to work in a number of differing consultancy environments and situations across the project lifecycle
- Maintain good communication and cooperation with all project team members with the ability to communicate at all levels and the demonstrated ability to have a senior role within a team
- Understanding and experience of working within project budgets whilst maintaining the delivery of highquality outputs
- Commitment to delivery to internal and external clients with the view towards timeliness reliability safety and accuracy of completed tasks
- Experienced in the use of all MS Office packages
- Understanding of CDM regulations
- Understanding of and participation in CSM including Telecomsspecific risks and hazards
- Experienced in the use of Bentley MicroStation
- Experience of lineside and station surveys
