The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of highquality drinking water managing wastewater and stormwater and reducing air noise and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country with nearly 6000 employees. DEPs water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the systems 2000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO) is responsible for the operation maintenance and protection of the Citys drinking water and wastewater collection (sewer) systems the protection of adjacent waterways and the development and protection of the Departments Capital Water and Sewer Design Program. The selected Summer Intern will be working in the Division of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS). The EHS Division fosters the development maintenance and improvement of effective and comprehensive environmental health and safety initiatives within the Bureau and Agency as a whole. The Division strives to ensure long term environmental health compliance and to fully integrate the understanding of effective EHS policies and practices at all levels of the Bureaus organization. Under general supervision the Intern will be responsible for collecting and entering data into EHS management system programs assisting in the preparations of EHS metrics assisting with employee training and safety programs.

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June August each year.
