The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all facilities related to the treatment of sewage within the five boroughs of the City of New York. This includes 14 Wastewater Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRFs) sludge dewatering facilities collections facilities (pumping stations combined sewer overflow retention facilities regulators tide gates etc.) wastewater laboratories and harbor vessels. The collection system includes 497 sewer regulators 152 miles of intercepting sewers 96 pumping systems 3 CSO storage facilities and 3 aeration facilities.
The JOC/TOC Section is responsible for the management of Planning Design and Construction contracts for the Division of Engineering. The TOC (Task Order Contract) design contracts develop design specifications and drawings for BWTs structural mechanical and electrical engineering sections. The JOC (Job Order Contract) construction contracts consist of four different contracts which include General Plumbing Electrical and HVAC. The JOCs are to ensure that the WRRFs are maintained in a good state of repair and the operation of the wastewater systems are continuous.
The summer intern will conduct preliminary project analysis under supervision of project manager as well as various nonadministrative duties related to design and construction projects. The intern assignment will include organizing and archiving contract documents for capital and inhouse contracts in the bureaus digital shareholder.

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June August each year.
