Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day management, operation, maintenance and administration of communications and IT systems and services in production, development, exercise and training environments. Preventive, remedial, and corrective maintenance shall be performed to ensure equipment and/or systems are in full operating condition as described by the equipment manufacturer without degradation of service.
  • Provide Systems Admin support for C2 communications servers, clients and applications, including but not limited to WAVE, CT-II, Mako, TransVerse/MXPP, etc.)
  • Install, patch, upgrade, tune, optimize and repair hardware and software (including operating systems, applications and databases) to maintain optimal performance
  • O&M of equipment and/or systems up to and including their demarcation points, and shall coordinate with, and assist external entities (other governmental agencies or contractors) in troubleshooting beyond their demarcation point during outages and troubleshooting, as required
  • Establish a trend analysis program to ensure equipment, systems and services meet minimum operational availability, reliability and survivability requirements, (including backup and recovery of end-to-end systems.
  • Identify hardware, software and/or service shortfalls and provide optimization recommendations to the government technical representative.
  • Schedule, coordinate, perform and record Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on the communication and IT systems and associated hardware IAW the original equipment manufacturer’s manuals (and/or government technical orders, as applicable) and USAFCENT Special Instructions- Communications (SPIN-C)
  • Perform unscheduled maintenance when equipment repairs and/or service restoration is required
  • Monitor equipment and systems for indications of warnings, faults, alarm conditions and outages; and provide component and system fault isolation, diagnostics, troubleshooting and restoration services
  • Troubleshoot until the source of the condition, degradation or outage is identified, and implement corrective actions and repairs to restore affected equipment, systems or services to full operational capability
  • Design, write, modify and implement software programs/applications;
  • Develop “glue-ware” to support operational client applications and security patches;
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support;
  • Install, configure, operate, manage, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, inspect and maintain server systems (physical and virtual), including administration of core and functional services;
  • Manage and administer user accounts, profiles and access;
  • Monitoring user access and adherence to established policies and procedures to ensure a secure operating environment;
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support for more complex end-user client/server database issues,which cannot be resolved by the Tier 1 technical support staff;
  • Plan, analyze, design, develop, install, troubleshoot, manage and administer databases to ensure overall system performance, quality, integrity and security;
  • Perform database and application security patching, upgrades and enhancements;
  • Install and integrate new and/or and customize existing applications; and create custom views, queries, reports and templates;
  • Develop and maintain database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for database/data dictionaries;
  • Administer and control database access permissions and privileges;
  • Develop, test, execute and manage back-up and recovery plans;
  • Perform database configuration, change and capacity management activities;
  • Other Duties as Required
  • Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret clearance.
  • Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.
  • Microsoft Certified Solution Expert (MCSE) Data Management and Analytics or equivalent certification (preferred); or Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MCSA) SQL or Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) Database, or equivalent certification
  • High School Diploma or GED

Database Installation and Configuration:
Install and configure database management systems (DBMS) like Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or others based on the organization’s needs.
Set up databases according to operational requirements, ensuring proper architecture and configuration for performance and scalability.
Apply patches, updates, and upgrades to database systems to ensure they remain secure and up-to-date.
Database Security Management:
Implement and enforce database security policies, ensuring that only authorized users have access to sensitive data.
Configure and manage user roles, permissions, and access controls to protect data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Apply encryption techniques and auditing features to safeguard data both at rest and in transit.
Monitor databases for suspicious activities and address potential security vulnerabilities.
Database Performance Optimization:
Monitor and optimize database performance by tuning SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database structures.
Analyze performance metrics (e.g., CPU usage, memory utilization, and query response times) and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
Ensure databases are running at optimal speed by adjusting configurations, optimizing queries, and optimizing storage.
Backup and Disaster Recovery:
Implement and manage database backup strategies to ensure that data is consistently backed up, secure, and recoverable in case of a disaster or failure.
Develop, test, and execute database recovery plans, ensuring minimal downtime and quick recovery during database outages or failures.
Regularly test backup procedures to ensure the integrity and reliability of the backup data.
