Roles and responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day management, operation, maintenance and administration of communications and IT systems and services in production, development, exercise and training environments. Preventive, remedial, and corrective maintenance shall be performed to ensure equipment and/or systems are in full operating condition as described by the equipment manufacturer without degradation of service.
- Install, patch, upgrade, tune, optimize and repair hardware and software (including operating systems, applications and databases) to maintain optimal performance
- O&M of equipment and/or systems up to and including their demarcation points, and shall coordinate with, and assist external entities (other governmental agencies or contractors) in troubleshooting beyond their demarcation point during outages and troubleshooting, as required
- Establish a trend analysis program to ensure equipment, systems and services meet minimum operational availability, reliability and survivability requirements, (including backup and recovery of end-to-end systems.
- Identify hardware, software and/or service shortfalls and provide optimization recommendations to the government technical representative.
- Schedule, coordinate, perform and record Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on the communication and IT systems and associated hardware IAW the original equipment manufacturer’s manuals (and/or government technical orders, as applicable) and USAFCENT Special Instructions- Communications (SPIN-C)
- Perform unscheduled maintenance when equipment repairs and/or service restoration is required
- Monitor equipment and systems for indications of warnings, faults, alarm conditions and outages; and provide component and system fault isolation, diagnostics, troubleshooting and restoration services
- Troubleshoot until the source of the condition, degradation or outage is identified, and implement corrective actions and repairs to restore affected equipment, systems or services to full operational capability
- Design, write, modify and implement software programs/applications;
- Develop “glue-ware” to support operational client applications and security patches;
- Provide Tier 2 technical support;
- Install, configure, operate, manage, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, inspect and maintain server systems (physical and virtual), including administration of core and functional services;
- Manage and administer user accounts, profiles and access;
- Monitoring user access and adherence to established policies and procedures to ensure a secure operating environment;
- Monitor workstation and server logs for errors and failures and perform appropriate troubleshooting and maintenance;
- Provide technical assistance for assigned projects;
- Provide desktop, server and software application integration support;
- Operate and maintain monitoring and analysis tools; and detect, analyze and resolve platform, infrastructure and system problems;
- Other Duties as Required
- Active, in-scope US Government issued Secret clearance with eligibility.
- Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US Citizenship is required.
Desired candidate profile
Installation and Configuration of GCCS Systems:
- Install, configure, and maintain the hardware and software components of the GCCS, ensuring they are set up according to operational requirements.
- Configure servers, workstations, and network devices involved in GCCS operations, including secure communication protocols and access controls.
- Ensure all system components are properly integrated to provide seamless communication across the global network.
2. System Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Continuously monitor the performance and health of the GCCS infrastructure, identifying any issues such as downtime, system crashes, or performance degradation.
- Track system logs, system resource usage (e.g., CPU, memory, disk), and network traffic to proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as updates, patches, and upgrades to ensure the system is operating at optimal performance.
3. Security and Access Control:
- Implement and enforce strong security measures to protect the GCCS from unauthorized access, cyber-attacks, and data breaches.
- Configure and manage firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and encryption tools to secure communication and data exchanges within the GCCS.
- Manage user access controls and roles, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to sensitive operational information and functionality.
- Monitor system vulnerabilities and ensure timely patching and updating of security software and protocols.
4. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
- Diagnose and resolve issues that affect the performance or availability of the GCCS, whether related to software, hardware, or network configurations.
- Provide technical support to users by addressing issues such as system outages, application failures, or connectivity problems.
- Work with other IT teams to resolve cross-functional issues, such as problems with integration between GCCS and other mission-critical systems.
