Job Description: Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse

Location: Arizona
Job Type: FullTime
Department: Emergency Room (ER)
Schedule: Varied shifts available; Modified selfscheduling with flexible start times: 7:00 AM 10:00 AM 11:00 AM 12:00 PM 1:00 PM 3:00 PM. Weekend and Holiday rotation required.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Room Registered Nurse to join our team in a Level 3 Trauma Center that also handles STEMI and Stroke cases. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of ER experience including experience in Trauma Level I or II within the past two years and a passion for delivering exceptional care to patients in a fastpaced highacuity environment.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team including physicians advanced practitioners and emergency medical technicians providing care to an average of 200 patients per day. This position requires knowledge and experience with common ER procedures trauma cases and emergency response protocols.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Patient Care:

    • Provide direct care to patients in the emergency department (ED) performing assessments interventions and treatments according to established protocols.
    • Manage a wide range of conditions from minor injuries to critical trauma cases.
    • Administer medications and IV fluids including ICU drips when needed.
    • Start and maintain IVs and perform various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (e.g. blood draws EKGs wound care splinting).
    • Respond rapidly to emergency situations including trauma STEMI and stroke cases.
  • Trauma & Critical Care:

    • Treat and stabilize patients in trauma bays and emergency rooms including patients with Gun Shot Wounds stabbings and other highrisk injuries.
    • Collaborate with medical staff to provide rapid lifesaving interventions and prepare patients for transfer or further medical intervention.
    • Assist with advanced procedures such as intubation ventilation and CPR when necessary.
  • Collaborative Work:

    • Work in close collaboration with ED physicians midlevels respiratory therapists (RT) and support staff (techs aides PCA).
    • Coordinate patient care with critical care teams for ICU holds and specialty consultations.
    • Communicate effectively with patients families and medical staff to ensure the best possible care delivery.
  • Triage & Fast Track:

    • Participate in triage and fast track care areas managing a patient ratio of 1:5 in the main ED and 1:6 in the fast track area.
    • Utilize ESI (Emergency Severity Index) for triage and patient prioritization.
  • Documentation & Technology:

    • Utilize Epic EMR for patient documentation and orders.
    • Perform necessary lab work with ED techs or RNs drawing labs or starting IVs as needed.
    • Monitor and assess patients continuously reading telemetry and collaborating with monitoring techs when required.
  • Emergency Equipment & Support:

    • Utilize RT equipment including Glidescope Hamilton and Phillips vents for respiratory management.
    • Utilize CT and Xray services in the ED and accompany critical patients as needed.
Qualifications & Certification Requirements:
  • Required Certifications:

    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience with Level I or II Trauma exposure in the past 23 years.
    • Experience in treating trauma patients including Gun Shot Wounds (GSWs) and stabbings is a plus.
    • Familiarity with critical care drips and protocols for ICUlevel care in the emergency setting.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • The Emergency Room is fastpaced with a variety of patient acuity levels.
  • Nurses will need to stand for extended periods assist with patient movement and manage highstress situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple patients and tasks at once with a focus on maintaining safety and quality care under pressure.
Shifts & Scheduling:
  • Varied Shift Times: 7:00 AM 10:00 AM 11:00 AM 12:00 PM 1:00 PM 3:00 PM
  • Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts per 4week block.
  • Holiday Requirements: Typically 2 of 5 (including holidays and eves).
  • Floating: Potential to float between facilities shared schedule with Foothills ER located 15 minutes away. Floating is typically planned ahead of time.

    • Unit/Department Specific Orientation: Includes 1 day NEO 1 day clinical/EPIC and 1 day on the floor.
    • Ongoing support from a collaborative team of professionals to ensure success in the department.
