As a Synthetic Organic Chemist in Syngentas Product Safety group you will provide technical expertise for the invention and development of new synthetic routes for lead molecules and metabolites to support the development and registration of crop protection chemical products globally. You will have onthejob learning opportunities to develop expertise in different areas of organic chemistry including photocatalysis electroorganic synthesis and biocatalysis. This role offers excellent opportunities to develop and expand your technical depth breath and impact via cross industry and academic research collaborations.
Duties:
- Independently investigate and conduct research into new synthetic routes of complex molecules entering the development pipeline using stateoftheart methodologies.
- Collaborate closely with teams from discovery and process chemistry for route scoping and development.
- Be responsible for developing and optimizing scalable synthetic routes that are amenable for the preparation of 14Clabeled standards of lead molecules and metabolites required to support global product registration.
- Deliver projects in a timely manner to support the pipeline and reregistration portfolios.
- Have the opportunity to present research both internally and externally and publish your work in peer reviewed journals.
- Interact with crossfunctional R&D teams to offer technical solutions and consultation for elucidation of metabolic pathways of molecules in various living systems.

Qualifications :
- Ph.D. with 37 years or B.S./M.S. with 812 years of industrial or academic experience in synthetic organic chemistry with an emphasis on reaction methodology development/process research physical organic chemistry and/or total synthesis of complex natural products.
- Have scientific creativity deep subject matter expertise in synthetic organic chemistry coupled with a sound knowledge of mechanistic and physical organic chemistry principles and ability to design and execute experiments independently.
- Experience in analysis of compounds using TLC and analytical instrumentations like GCMS and/or LCMS.
- Excellent laboratory skills in purification of compounds using different chromatographic methods recrystallization and/or distillation.
- Have sound knowledge and experience in all aspects of laboratory safety and industrial hygiene.
- Experience in carbon14 synthesis preferred but not required.
- Aptitude with electronic word processing spreadsheet and presentation systems as well as comfort in using electronic systems and databases is desirable.
