Tunnel Ventilation Engineer

Our team as part of the continued growth of our business is looking to hire a Tunnel Ventilation Design Engineer to support our Fire Protection Discipline team in delivering multidisciplinary projects. These projects span a diverse range of construction sectors including among others Industrial Healthcare Education Leisure Aviation Commercial and Defense.

Working within a energetic diverse and driven team this position offers a flexible/hybrid schedule been based in Madrid.

Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Assist in the design design optimization and construction administration of Ventilation Fire & Life Safety systems for transit/highway tunnels overbuilds industrial utility commercial and process facilities.
• Develop technical reports calculations drawings and specifications including heating and cooling load calculations and pressure loss calculations.
• Develop ventilation concepts and strategies for determining tenability and fire life safety requirements using 1D Subway Environment Simulation (SES) and 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
• Optimize ventilation capacities using SES and CFD and assist in the layout and design of tunnel ventilation equipment including equipment access and removal plans.
• Develop mode of operation tables and systems integration with control and monitoring systems.
• Work in multidisciplinary teams review SMEP design drawings to develop models that accurately reflect the tunnels network station(s) and facilities.
• Provide support during commissioning and construction administration activities if needed.
• Contribute to the growth of the tunnel vent and underground practice in the firm by developing technical concepts and proposal technical approaches.
• Support technical client relationships and assist to meetings.
• Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for specific areas of expertise.

Qualifications :

Essential requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with regulatory requirements (including NFPA) for tunnel ventilation and fire safety including experience in railways and underground spaces.
• Experience with CFD modeling
• Willingness to work 2 3 days per week based in Madrid.
• Fluent in Spanish and English languages (both verbal and written).

Preferred qualifications:

• MS in Mechanical Engineering.
• Knowledge of various tunnel ventilation methods and techniques.
• Experience in technical report preparation Revit and facilities MEP design requirements.
• Understanding and application of fluid flow heat and mass transfer governing equations.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to recommend Risk Management Plan on projects.
