Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, the Head Nurse is responsible for the management of the area and promoting the safety aspects of both patients and staff in her care; observing RCH Policies and Procedures and reflects the Mission, Vision, and objectives of the Nursing Department and hospital in a client-centered manner.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Commitment to Hospital
  • Practice in a manner which is always client centered and fitting to an excellent Private Hospital, reinforcing the impression that the hospital regards the client (patient and family) as the focal recipient of excellent care, respect, friendly communication and professional behavior.
  • Practice in a manner which promotes positive image of nursing and hospital to patients, family and visitors.
  • Take immediate action to resolve or clear any negative impression, complaint or distress expressed in any way by the patient or family.

  • Job Competence
  • Undertakes the overall managerial responsibilities of the unit under his/her control and demonstrates managerial competence
  • Promote education of patients, patient’s families, and the community.
  • Ensure a high standard of nursing care is provided in the area.
  • Ensures safety of patients and staff, making certain that the staff is fully aware of safety precautions and regulations.
  • Assists in the orientation of the new recruits.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing CPR in such an event.
  • Assigns duties and coordinates with the Area Manager.
  • Directs preparation and maintenance of patient’s clinical records.
  • Displays safety with regards to the storage of Dangerous Drugs and Chemical by making certain that the key is kept in a safe place or in the possession.
  • Assists in orientation of new recruits / participates in orientation and training of personnel.
  • Ensure that the ambulance vehicle and its equipment and consumable stock is in operational readiness at all times. Shall perform a daily check and document ambulance vehicle stock in appropriate form.

  • Responds promptly to complaints and concerns.
  • Evaluates nursing activities, patient care, staff relations, and efficiency of service.
  • Observes nursing care and visits patients to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed, and treatment administered in accordance with the physician’s instruction.
  • Accompanies physician and keeps informed of special orders concerning patient.
  • Investigates and resolve complaints, or refers unsolved problems to the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Area Manager and/or the Director of Nursing.

  • Teamwork and Communication
  • Collaborates with nursing colleagues to promote optimal utilization of using resources of the department, and provide high quality nursing care.
  • Demonstrates respectful and supportive approach to communication with colleagues.
  • Maintain continuity of care by establishing a cooperative rapport with other colleagues.
  • Use only English or Arabic, speak to Arab patients and families in Arabic only and show a steady improvement in Arabic language skills.
  • Recognizes the needs and participates as a member of the interdisciplinary teamwork towards attaining RNH mission, vision and goal meeting patient’s significant others ‘ physical, emotional and spiritual needs in a dignified manner.

Desired candidate profile

BSN Degree or Diploma in Nursing
Current Licensure (RN) with a nursing governing body from country of origin.
Professional Nursing License from Saudi Council for Health Specialties.

Experience:

Minimum of 7(seven) years clinical experience in an acute care hospital.
Two years experience in a management role.


Competencies/Skills:

Fluent in spoken and written English.
Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Good in customer care, able to work in multidisciplinary teams
Knowledgeable in computer applications.
He / She must be able to manage projects and should be organized.
He / She must be creative, flexible and have critical thinking skills.
Must have good personal hygiene and be well groomed at all times.
Management of Resources and Environment
Manage resources in a cost effective manner
Ensure there is no waste. Does not use inappropriate resources that are not cost effective. For example, never use sterile gauze to wash the patient.
Ensure cubicles/rooms are kept ready for the next patients.
Remove or report any unsafe situation, damage or malfunctioning equipments.

Patient and Family Education
Responsible to educate patients /families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient / family education process as mention in patient & family education policy and procedure including documentation in patient medical record.
They are knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education.
Involves the patient/families in plan of care and respects patients/families regarding their goals and choices of patient care.
Provides health promotion and health teaching thru methods appropriate to a patients’ developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, culture and situations.
Allots time necessary to assess, plan implement and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.
