Senior Firmware Embedded Software Engineer Hybrid

As a Senior Firmware / Embedded Software Engineer: 

• Experience developing in realtime operating systems (RTOS) such as RTLinux TIRTOS and Micrium c/OS including understanding of tasks scheduling priorities and messaging.
• Develop embedded software / firmware supporting software architectural design efforts and implementing software to according to requirements.
• Document the design of software and test systems.
• Determine and document appropriate software development and test methodologies.
• Provide input and technical oversight as a consumer of software produced by internal and external teams.
• Provide field application support as needed to customers and Bosch field support staff.
• Engage with project management on schedule development including but not limited to creating estimates for product management evaluating risks and opportunities that affect development plans and working with stakeholders of software to support integration planning.
• Work closely with product management customers operations and other stakeholders to develop and articulate product and system strategies codevelop technology and product roadmaps and decompose customer and business needs into technical requirements.
• Work with vendors providing technical inputs codeveloping technical strategies and assisting in defining scope of work.
• Mentor software engineers to grow domain and technology knowledge.
• Support the software lifecycle development process including creating & reviewing technical requirements from stakeholder requirements capturing design inputs design creation testing and continuation support.
• Act as a problem solver and an innovative thinker developing a working knowledge of broadcast media and communication technologies and use cases.
• Survey technologies relevant to the broadcast media and communication technologies application space and perform technology exploration and prototyping.

Qualifications :

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Mathematics Engineering or related field.
• 8 to 12 years embedded software / firmware development experience or Masters or PhD degree generally 5 years embedded software / firmware development experience.
• Must demonstrate high proficiency developing products on embedded hardware platforms in a professional environment.
• Experienced in most stages of the software development lifecycle process: design input gathering and refinement design and development verification manufacturing deployment and continuation.
  • Experience with source code control (Git Mercurial).
  • Experience planning and executing the development effort of a component or capability for customers/users.
  • Preferred prior experience leading software development projects.
  • Preferred prior experience writing automated tests.
• Knowledge Required:
  • Advanced C/C proficiency in an embedded realtime environment
  • Preferred knowledge of Python especially in automated test environments
  • Knowledge of design patterns and solutions for common programming challenges in both high and low level languages.
  • Working knowledge of realtime firmware environments and development methodologies to support realtime processes and the optimization of performance.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment. 
  • Hybrid onsite approximately 3 days/week onsite work will vary by project need.
  • Ability to travel approximately up to 5% of working time to provide customer support manufacturing support as it relates to software etc.
• Skills
  • Ability to lead software development efforts ranging from a software component or capability up to a technology development or product development effort

Desired or Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with developing software for Microsoft Windows
• Preferred: experience with Azure DevOps.  Acceptable:  similar tools used in agile environments such as Jira or Github.
• Preferred Microsoft Windows application development and prior MFC experience

• Strong technical communication skills including an ability to justify design decisions document architecture communicate direction and an ability to present technology direction to Business Unit Senior Management
• Preferred deep knowledge of IT architectures and systems or in the development of equipment to work in an Enterprise IT infrastructure
• Experience in developing software for realtime digital audio applications
• Experience developing graphical user interfaces preferred
• Experience with one or more software operating systems/platforms
• Understanding of modular and scalar software development
• Provide input into intellectual property development
• Familiarity with a variety of software development platforms environments development and test tools
• Experience working with a variety of protocols and interfaces such as I2S I2C SPI Ethernet TCP/IP A/D & D/A

• GUI design/development graphic bitmap/icon formats font formats
• Familiarity with digital broadcast environments live media production

• Ability to effectively and efficiently manage time across multiple projects research and support activities in scenarios as a sole contributor and as a leader of other engineers and interns
