Apprentice Power Industry Distribution Cable Jointer
Role Overview
As an Apprentice Power Industry Distribution Cable Jointer you will work closely with experienced engineers to assist in the design installation and maintenance of electrical distribution networks focusing on highvoltage and lowvoltage cables. You will be involved in the build of complex networks and substations including battery storage facilities and largescale solar farms. This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience and technical knowledge in the power industry while contributing to renewable energy infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Cable Jointing & Installation: Assist in the preparation installation and jointing of highvoltage and lowvoltage cables ensuring they are correctly connected insulated and meet all technical standards.
- Substation & Network Build: Support the design and construction of electrical substations distribution networks and connections for renewable energy projects such as solar farms and battery storage systems.
- Maintenance & Repair: Learn to maintain and repair electrical cables and equipment ensuring continuous safe operation and optimal performance of distribution systems.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict health and safety protocols and ensure all work is completed in compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.
- Troubleshooting & Fault Diagnosis: Assist with diagnosing and repairing faults in electrical distribution systems using testing equipment to identify issues and ensure rapid resolution.
- Training & Development: Participate in structured apprenticeship training gaining knowledge and practical skills in cable jointing techniques electrical systems and renewable energy technologies.
- Documentation & Reporting: Assist in recording work activities maintaining accurate project documentation and reporting progress to senior engineers and supervisors.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with a team of engineers and technicians to ensure projects are completed on time and meet quality standards.
- Learning New Techniques: Continuously improve your technical expertise in cable jointing and power distribution systems by participating in handson learning and technical workshops.
Skills and Experience:
Educational Qualifications:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Mathematics English and Science at grade C or above.
- A keen interest in electrical systems renewable energy and the power industry.
Skills and Experience:
- A basic understanding of electrical systems including power cables circuits and jointing techniques.
- Strong interest in renewable energy projects such as solar wind and battery storage.
- Good problemsolving skills and an ability to think critically and logically.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow technical specifications accurately.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- A commitment to learning and gaining new skills in the electrical power industry.
Desirable but not essential:
- Any prior experience in electrical work cable installations or related fields is advantageous but not required.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations in the electrical industry.
