Your responsibilities
CERN is seeking a Radiation Effects Physicist or Engineer to join the Radiation to Electronics team within the SYSTIBMI section. Our team plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliable operation of radiationexposed electronic components and systems in CERNs accelerator environment.
Your Role:
As a key member of our team you will:
- Conduct radiation effects testing on electronic components and systems focusing on Single Event Effects (SEE) characterization.
- Contribute to the advancement of best practices and guidelines for radiation effects testing in accelerator environments.
- Perform experimental research to support SEE modeling activities within the team.
- Carry out tests in various facilities both at CERN and externally analyzing a wide range of electronic components and SEE types.
- Play a leading role in experiments at CERNs new highenergy heavyion beam facility (linked to the HEARTS EU project) and the soontobecommissioned SEE laser test bench.
- Investigate SEE mechanisms and their dependence on test conditions including particle type and energy.
- Contribute to updating procedures for quantifying neutroninduced SEE rates in accelerator mixedfield environments.
Your profile
Skills
- Knowledge and experience in radiation effects on electronics with a focus on Single Event Effects including guidelines and standards
- Knowledge of radiationmatter interaction processes relevant to SEE induction
- Knowledge of semiconductor physics and microelectronics circuit design
- Knowledge and experience with hardware firmware and software for SEE testing
- Experience with pulsed laser SEE testing would be an asset
- Knowledge of Monte Carlo models and methods for SEE estimates would be an asset
- Fluent in English the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Applied physics/electronics engineering (or a related field) and have either:
- a Masters degree with 2 to 6 years of postgraduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of postgraduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
