Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE: The Engineering Manager must be a proven results oriented individual with a professional track record in providing profitable professional services coupled with a high level of client satisfaction. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a dynamic entrepreneurial fast paced environment. This position will combine strong leadership personal communication and technical skills to commission Veolias challenging and diverse portfolio including Hyperscale Enterprise and Collocation Data Centers Central Utility Plants (CUP) and Power Generation (combined heat & power; CHP) facilities

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Attributes

  1. Work with senior management and staff to improve and optimize core services standards and procedures as applied to the commissioning process resource utilization and management.
  2. Manage mechanical/electrical systems commissioning energy and consulting of complex projects for local national and international clients.
  3. Lead multidisciplined teams to effectively manage projects across multiple locations.
  4. Serve as single point overall technical contact coordinating directly with customers technical team and their contractors.
  5. Prepare and review method of procedures commissioning plans technical reports specifications cost estimates and studies.
  6. Diagnose and solve design and operational issues as a result of a thorough commissioning process.
  7. Manage commissioning projects and project resources to a predetermined scope fee and schedule.
  8. Perform construction observations review contract documents develop functional test plans and execute tests for a wide variety of mechanical and controls systems. Knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards such as ASHRAE and LEED is a plus.
  9. Knowledge application and implementation of electrical/mechanical test instrumentation is desirable.
  10. Familiarity with NETA Electrical Acceptance Testing guidelines is a plus.
  11. Working knowledge of Life Safety systems is a plus.

Project Management Attributes

  1. Manage projects project teams clients project scopes project budgets and project schedules. 
  2. Work with customer and project team to define and manage project deliverables to support the projects needs.
  3. Ensure complete communication and understanding of clients requirements expectations and best practices.
  4. Ensure ontime and highest quality delivery of all hardware information and services in full compliance with project technical requirements.
  5. Provide client with regular status reports summarizing technical activities schedule performance risks budget status and forecasts.
  6. Ensure clear definition and swift closeout of project punchlist items.
  7. Ensure all site quality control documentation and test reports are properly archived and communicated to responsible customer service personnel.
  8. Review project budgets to insure they adequately cover design and scope of supply requirements.

Development Attributes

  1. Identify new clients new opportunities maintain existing client relationships and general marketing new related opportunities.
  2. Review design documents and craft project proposals and ROM pricing as per client request.
  3. Participate in preaward and contract negotiation presentations and meetings.
  4. Identify/support development of new business relationships and opportunities. 
  5. Manage relationships with key clients and identify upsell opportunities.
  6. Engage senior management in development of long range planning.
  7. Support management efforts to facilitate employee development and training.

Administration

  1. Coordinate internal resource scheduling.
  2. Review expense reports & time sheets (Direct Reports).
  3. Conduct annual performance reviews (Direct Reports).
  4. Work with senior management on implementation of performance management and improvement systems.

Safety

  1. Comply with and uphold safety in the workplace guidelines and practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Permanent and fulltime position from Monday to Friday day schedules.
  • The ideal candidate will work remotely from North America with required travel.
  • The role may require extensive local national and occasional international travel and may require employees to be away from home on assignments between 50% and 80% annually. Typically Mondays and Fridays are designated travel days with Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays as on site work days. Veolia allows employees to travel back on Fridays so they can spend their weekends at home unless specifically dictated by work requirements. 
  • Roles may occasionally require work to be conducted outside of normal business hours to accommodate maintenance windows or weekends typical of mission critical project schedules. 
  • Working environment requires the employee to be in high energy areas such as central plants switchgear rooms and power transmission areas typical of Mission Critical environments such as Power Generation Plants and Data Centers.

Qualifications :

Education / Experience / Background :

  • Bachelors degree in engineering with 1015 years of practical experience in the implementation and project management of electrical/mechanical/controls commissioning of critical building systems;

                                                                                 OR

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience as commissioning agent with proven practical experience in the implementation and project management of electrical/mechanical/controls commissioning of critical building systems.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: 

  • Demonstrate above average people and negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrate superior time management and ability to work under the pressures of schedule demands.
  • Ability to be resourceful and find solutions to fast paced complex problems.
  • Able to think technically about Mission Critical systems and verbalize for a less technical audience.
  • Able to drive project expectations to conclusion be fiscally conscious of project budget.
  • Be a role model of composure for direct reports under difficult client projects.
  • Be a mentor for direct reports (if any) and subject matter expert for direct report growth.
  • If needed be able to interview and participate in the selection of candidates to fill direct report positions. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is a must. Use of Google equivalents a plus.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training : 

  • EIT PE CEM DCEP LEED CEM credentials a plus.
  • BCxP CBCP CCP & PMP credentials a plus.
