Scientific Advisor position. We will consider candidates for any of our offices including our virtual office The Link. The candidate will work primarily with attorneys in our Healthcare Life Sciences & Education business unit.
The ideal Scientific Advisor candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Biology Biochemistry Molecular Biology Cellular Biology Chemistry or a related field of study. Responsibilities include working with the firm's clients and counsel in all aspects of the patent practice primarily assisting in litigation support to include working with expert witnesses and reviewing documents for use in litigation evaluating invention disclosures drafting patent specifications and claims with some emphasis on preparing and prosecuting applications and technical support on proceedings in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A candidate should be willing to seek registration as a patent agent with the USPTO. Additionally and under the supervision of lawyers the individual will assume significant client responsibilities provide highquality services to domestic and foreign clients and communicate with other practitioners and staff. Essential job functions include:
- Work with the firm's clients and counsel in all aspects of patent practice.
- Assist in litigation support including:
- Working with expert witnesses.
- Reviewing documents for use in litigation.
- Evaluate invention disclosures.
- Draft patent specifications and claims.
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications.
- Provide technical support for proceedings in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Assume significant client responsibilities under the supervision of lawyers.
- Provide highquality services to domestic and foreign clients.
- Communicate effectively with other practitioners and staff.
Position Requirements
- Doctorate degree in Biology Biochemistry Molecular Biology Cellular Biology Chemistry or a related field.
- Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills interacting in a professional and courteous manner with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Willingness to seek registration as a patent agent with the USPTO.

Compensation And Benefits
Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience.
The exact compensation will vary based on skills experience location and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:

- State of Colorado: $75000 $134000
- State of Illinois: $74000 $143000
- Jersey City NJ: $89000 $161000
- State of Maryland: $79000 $120000
- State of Massachusetts: $82000 $156000
- State of Minnesota: $82000 $135000
- State of New York: $76000 $164000
- State of Washington: $79000 $150000
- Washington D.C.: $106000 $155000
The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus however bonus opportunities are nonguaranteed and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
