Ovyl is a growing product development firm in Nashville TN working on an exciting range of consumer electronics lifestyle products and medical devices. Weve got several projects running in parallel and are looking for a contract Industrial Designer to support our inhouse team of designers on one or more projects this spring

Project OverviewAs the ID Contractor you will engage in the initial concept exploration and design development of 12 consumer electronic projects. Your work will focus primarily on exploring aesthetic and usability concepts while adhering to a set of predefined user needs and project constraints. You will be working under the direction of the design manager as well as collaborating with an internal team of designers and firmware/electrical engineers. The deliverables from this work will inform key design decisionmaking as well as the overall project direction(s).
Qualifications5 years of professional design experience
A degree in Industrial Design or similar
Strong visualization skills
High level of comfort using Onshape or similar CAD tools especially in curvature continuous surface modeling techniques.
Experienced contract designer collaborating with external research and design teams
Can demonstrate how youve taken predefined requirements and turned them into actionable concepts
Start Date: April 2025
End Date: June 2025
Weekly Commitment: 816 hours per week
You will be responsible for managing your time to ensure all deliverables are met on time (per the project schedule)
You are available for checkins updates and collaborative work sessions during normal business hours (Mon Fri 9:00 AM 5:00 PM CST)
All work must be original and adhere to intellectual property guidelines as defined by the client agreement.
Concept Exploration:
Collaborate with internal teams to understand predefined user needs client constraints and project objectives.
Research relevant design trends and competitive products to create mood boards for future exploration.
Generate multiple design directions using sketches CAD models and highquality renderings.
Ensure designs align with aesthetic goals usability requirements and technical constraints.
Iterate designs based on feedback from internal teams and the client.
Communication and Presentation:
Prepare and present design concepts to internal stakeholders for review and refinement.
Compile polished design outputs for client presentations ensuring clarity and alignment with project goals.
Communicate and collaborate with Ovyls internal team during normal business hours
Project Management:
Maintain consistent communication with the internal team to provide updates on progress.
Adhere to project timelines and milestones to ensure deliverables are completed within the agreed timeframe.
Initial sketches showcasing various design directions.
CAD models and quick renderings for selected concepts.
Highresolution renderings
Documentation summarizing design rationale and addressing user needs and constraints.
All deliverables should be suitable for both internal review and client presentations.
