Key duties and responsibilities:


Job Description:


Infrastructure Engineers implement manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical virtual networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services.


Job Duties and Responsibilities may include:


  • Managing and administering the Microsoft Azure cloud environment including provisioning configuration performance monitoring policy governance and security.
  • Designing developing and implementing highly available multiregion solutions.
  • Analysing existing operational standards processes and governance to identify and implement improvements.
  • Developing IaC using cloudnative tools for automated and consistent platform deployments.
  • Implementing policydriven data protection practices to safeguard cloud solutions from data loss.
  • Supporting the cloud adoption of applications as they are transformed and modernised.
  • Ensuring all infrastructure components meet proper performance and capacity standards.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior cloud engineers.
  • Sharing best practices architectural patterns and lessons learned.
  • Reviewing code and provide constructive feedback.


Requirements

Technical Skills:


Candidates are required to have one/more of the following:


Experience level Required: EL1 equivalent

Security Clearance: PDG is seeking candidates who hold active NV1 or TSPV security clearances. Please clearly indicate the level held within your responses.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an Infrastructure Engineer role or equivalent.
  • Bachelor Degree in information technology or a related field or holds certification in virtualization accreditation and experience (preferred)
  • Strong technical background in hosted services environments including hardware software virtualization and storage.
  • Knowledge and experience within Private and/or Public Cloud technologies including VMware product suite Microsoft Azure (desirable).
  • Strong technical background in hosted services environments including hardware software virtualization storage and container orchestration.
  • Knowledge of Operating Systems.
  • Sound experience with TCP/IP networking (DNS DHCP etc).
  • Strong knowledge of security as it relates to cloud based services (desirable).


Essential criteria


1. AVMT 5 Availability management: Level 5 (SFIA) Provides advice and guidance on the planning design and improvement of service and component availability. Investigates all breaches of availability targets and service nonavailability and initiates remedial activities. Develops plans for disaster recovery together with supporting processes. Manages the testing of disaster recovery plans.

2. CPMG 4 Capacity management: Level 4 (SFIA) Monitors service component capacity and initiates actions to resolve any shortfalls according to agreed procedures. Applies techniques to control the demand upon a particular resource or service. Contributes to capacity modelling and planning. Supports the design of service component capacity.

3. ITOP 5 IT infrastructure: Level 5 (SFIA) Provides technical leadership to optimise the performance of IT infrastructure. Investigates and manages the adoption of tools techniques and processes (including automation) for the management of systems and services. Oversees the planning installation maintenance and acceptance of new and updated infrastructure components and infrastructurebased services. Aligns to service expectations security requirements and other quality standards. Ensures that operational procedures and documentation are fit for purpose and kept up to date. Ensures that operational issues are identified recorded monitored and resolved. Provides appropriate status and other reports to specialists users and managers.

4. DESN 5 Systems design: Level 5 (SFIA) Designs large or complex systems and undertakes impact analysis on major design options and tradeoffs. Ensures that the system design balances functional and nonfunctional requirements. Reviews systems designs and ensures that appropriate methods tools and techniques are applied effectively. Makes recommendations and assesses and manages associated risks. Adopts and adapts system design methods tools and techniques. Contributes to development of system design policies standards and selection of architecture components.

SINT 5 - Plans and drives activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities including automation and continuous integration. Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes to create a robust integration framework. Provides authoritative advice and guidance on any aspect of systems integration. Leads integration work in line with the agreed system and service design. Assesses risks and takes preventative action. Measures and monitors applications of standards. Contributes to the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for systems integration. Desirable criteria 1.
