Job Description

The Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness (CHECW) seeks to eliminate racial and other inequities resulting in premature mortality. With an unwavering grounding in history and structural analysis CHECW works to increase visibility of the harm perpetuated by centuries of racist socially unjust policy while pushing towards redress for the most impacted NYC communities. CHECW addresses inequity across community and healthcare systems in partnership with community faithbased and health care organizations. CHECWs work focuses on social determinants of health including environmental and commercial determinants and addresses both upstream and downstream factors to improve health and well being of New Yorkers. CHECW is comprised of the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention the Bureau of Health Equity Capacity Building the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems and the Bureau of Finance Administration and Services. The divisions Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agencys Chief Equity Officer and oversees Race to Justice the Agencys internal reform effort to help our staff learn what they can do to better address racial health gaps and improve health outcomes for all New Yorkers. CHECW sits under the Agencys Chief Medical Officer. The Bureau of Equitable Health Systems is the healthcare systems bureau of DOHMH.

Our mission is to apply policy evidence and practical expertise to improve equity in health care delivery at the individual organizational and systems levels. We do this by engaging in primary care providers and other healthcare organizations to implement evidence based strategies; leveraging information to support planning and technical assistance for providers and payers; advancing policy to close the racial equity gap for priority health outcomes; and surfacing opportunities where health care can influence and connect consumers to social support and addressing the whole person beyond physical ailments. Located within the BEHS the Office of Healthcare Systems Strategy and Accountability (OHSSA) advances innovative initiatives to improve healthcare delivery financing and strategy in New York City. The Bureau of Equitable Health Systems seeks to hire a Health and Planning Engagement Analyst to provide planning engagement and programmatic support across a variety of OHSSA initiatives and programs.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Research policy and demonstration projects as needed for relevant projects.
Conduct research in order to develop and present presentations reports memos briefs and summaries.
Engage key stakeholders including lawmakers regulators communitybased organizations advocacy organizations healthcare providers and payers and government to inform initiatives and programs.
Assist with deadlines and deliverables associated with assigned projects and work with relevant external and internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of activities.
Provide technical assistance follow up and other needed communication with external stakeholders.
Participate as Office of Healthcare Systems Strategy and Accountability (OHSSA) representative in workgroup(s) as needed.
Develop meeting agendas meeting minutes and materials; schedule and provide logistical support for workgroup meetings and technical assistance to partners stakeholder groups and workgroup meetings and calls. Additional programmatic support as needed and other assignments as assigned by supervisor.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
MPH or similar advanced degree. Experience with project management
Demonstrate knowledge of public health practice health disparities and social determinants of health
Excellent communication skills with ability to engage and facilitate cooperation among multiple stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fastpaced work environment and meet deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills experience in delivering presentations to a variety of audiences.

Qualifications :

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical biological and environmental sciences and public health) A masters degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and one year of fulltime experience in a responsible supervisory administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A masters degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical biological environmental or social science and three years of responsible fulltime research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least a masters degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in 2 above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in 1 and 2 above.

Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
