Job Description

Title: ElectroOptical Engineering Professor

Duration: PartTime Temporary

Location: ONSITE Monterey

Position Overview:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is seeking an experienced ElectroOptical Engineering Professor to develop and deliver course curriculum for EC3210 Introduction to ElectroOptical Engineering. The course will be delivered in both resident and distance learning formats during the Spring quarter of 2025. The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of electrooptical and infrared (EO/IR) systems with a focus on military applications.

Course Description:

EC3210 introduces students to the fundamentals of electrooptical and infrared systems used in military applications. Topics include properties of light optical elements quantum theory of light emission laser sources Gaussian beam propagation thermal sources of radiation laser and IR detectors and signaltonoise analysis. The course also covers military applications such as missile seekers laser designators and laser weapons.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Course Development: Update and refine existing course materials and curriculum to ensure an educationally balanced and relevant approach.
  • Course Delivery: Teach one section of the course onsite at NPS in Monterey CA and deliver a simultaneous distance learning section using governmentprovided web applications.
  • Monitor Student Performance: Track and evaluate student performance throughout the course ensuring a graduatelevel understanding of electrooptical engineering principles.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with NPS to ensure alignment with course objectives and government standards.
  • Utilize Available Materials: Access existing course materials and government websites to supplement and enhance the course content.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 15 years of experience in delivering graduatelevel courses in a relevant field.
  • Educational Background: A PhD in Electrical Engineering Electrical and Computer Engineering or Physics.
  • Expertise: A minimum of 10 years of experience with electrooptical electronics.
  • Additional Requirements: Ability to deliver highquality instruction in both inperson and online formats.

Period of Performance:

  • Course Development: Between 1 March 2025 and 30 March 2025 (Course has been developed but needs updates).
  • Course Delivery: Between 31 March 2025 and 18 June 2025 (Exact schedule will be provided one week before the course begins).
