Responsibilities
Safety Program Development and Implementation:
- Assist in the development implementation and evaluation of safety programs policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all federal state and local mining safety regulations (including MSHA standards).
- Develop and maintain sitespecific safety plans and emergency response procedures.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for miners contractors and visitors.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations and taskspecific safety training.
- Train employees on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Promote safety awareness and encourage a strong safety culture.
Inspections and Audits:
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of the mine site equipment and work practices.
- Identify and document unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Recommend corrective actions and follow up to ensure implementation.
Incident Investigation and Reporting:
- Investigate accidents near misses and safety violations to determine root causes.
- Conduct incident investigations gather evidence and interview witnesses.
- Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of safety data including inspections training and incidents.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with all levels of employees contractors and management regarding safety issues.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety into all aspects of mine operations.
- Participate in safety meetings and committees.
- Stay uptodate on industry best practices and regulatory changes.
Production Support:
- Assist in underground activities and operations as needed.
- Supervise and monitor the gravity separation circuit to ensure efficient production.
- Support maintenance and operational tasks in the mine shop.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to operate heavy equipment and provide handson assistance when required.
Safety Leadership:
- Lead by example demonstrating a commitment to safety and integrity in all actions.
- Uphold and promote quality standards in safety practices and workplace operations.
- Inspire and guide team members to prioritize safety in their daily tasks.
- Foster an environment of trust and accountability ensuring adherence to safety protocols and company values.
Work Location:
- This position is based at the Revenue Virginius Mine Site in Ouray County.
- Must be able to work at high altitudes of up to 13000 feet.
- Will require both underground and surface work in varying environmental conditions.
- Must be physically fit and be able to perform first aid including potential mine rescue activities.
Qualifications:
- REQUIRED: Minimum of 3 years of experience of safety in a mining role
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety Mining Engineering or a related field (preferred).
- Clean Driving Record (Subject to Criminal Record Check)
- Indepth knowledge of MSHA regulations and underground mining safety practices.
- Strong organizational communication and problemsolving skills.
- Certification in safety management (e.g. MSHA Instructor Certification OSHA certification) is a plus.
