The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is comprised of 2000 employees and with an annual operating budget of over $1 billion is one of the largest organizations of its kind committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City. Collaborating with other public agencies and notforprofit partners DHS works to prevent homelessness before it occurs reduce street homelessness and assist New Yorkers to transition from shelter into appropriate permanent housing. DHS is responsible for management of over 200 facilities which mainly are individual and family shelters used as overnight residences for over 38000 adults and children. DHSs portfolio covers approximately 4M square feet.
The Facilities and Logistics Division (F&L) is responsible for providing both direct and indirect maintenance and repair services to City owned and operated facilities using inhouse skilled tradeworkers maintenance contracts and purchasing operation. F&L is responsible for monitoring DHS shelters as it relates to the maintenance of building systems. The F&L guides shelter staff on ways to improve facility conditions and the goal of this unit is to ensure funds are being spent on preventive and general maintenance to avoid premature failure of building systems.
The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is recruiting for one (1) Supervisor Electrician who will:
Supervise the work of electricians electricians helpers and other assigned personnel in altering repairing and maintaining appliances equipment and wiring circuits in electrical installations for light heat and power in or on buildings and/or traffic control systems.
Manage coordinate and perform electrical installations maintenance and repairs across assigned facilities.
Inspect electrical systems equipment and components to identify hazards defects and the need for adjustments or repairs.
Ensure that electrical work complies with city state national codes and standards.
Develop and implement electrical maintenance schedules and safety protocols.
Train and mentor electricians and other maintenance staff on best practices and safety procedures.
Maintain logs and records of all electrical work inspections and repairs.
Respond promptly to emergency electrical issues and dispatch appropriate resources.
Collaborate with other maintenance supervisors and departments to ensure the smooth functioning of all facilities.
Make decisions relative to work procedures; prepare work schedules and make work assignments.
Conduct field inspections in connection with electrical installations and components of systems relative to work progress or need for alterations maintenance and repairs.
Prepare job orders and tool and material requisitions.
Oversee the complete operation of the department shop; consult with staff personnel contractors inspectors and manufacturers representatives in connection with department work.
Prepare reports and keep records.
Hours/Schedule: Monday Friday 8am 3:30pm
SUPERVISOR ELECTRICIAN 91769
Qualifications :
1. Six years of fulltime satisfactory experience as an electrician acquired within the last fifteen years at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or
2. At least four years of experience as described in 1 above plus sufficient satisfactory experience as an electricians helper or apprentice electrician or training in the electrical field acquired in an approved trade technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of such helper experience apprentice training or training in the electrical field. However all candidates must have had at least one year of fulltime satisfactory experience as a supervising electrician acquired within the last fifteen years.
License Requirements
A Motor Vehicle Driver license valid in the State of New York.
All licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.
