The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully reenter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOC seeks to hire a Stationary Engineer whos task will include but are not limited to the following:
Operates maintains and adjusts boilers furnaces engines pumps heat exchangers generators motors chillers cooling towers equipment for heating ventilating air conditioning lighting and associated equipment in public buildings municipal pumping stations and incinerators.
Makes periodic inspections of equipment and repairs to such equipment as necessary.
Reads and logs meters gauges and other recording devices.
May operate control consoles.
Performs preventative maintenance.
Monitors fuel levels accept fuel deliveries.
Prepares spare parts and inventory lists.
Covers shifts throughout DOC facilities knowledge of controls especially pneumatics is a must.
Inspects all temporary hoses and connections associated with chiller and equipment.
Performs other duties/special projects as assigned.
Candidates are required to have both a valid NYC Stationary Engineer License issued by the NYC Department of Buildings and a valid Refrigeration Machine Operator License (RMO) from the NYC Fire Department (Unlimited Capacity).
Qualifications :
A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
