What youd be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think thats all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things youll be working on when you start but this will likely evolve.

In this team ou will be instrumental in building the systems that enable valuable capabilities within the Apps SDK that allow App developers to integrate with their external systems including authentication / authorisation interaction with external servers and upload of assets. You will drive & own projects from solution ideation to design iteration to feature delivery.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and learn what its like to create a product for a community of developers. You will have opportunities to speak on behalf of Canva Developers and help nurture and grow our community.

At the moment this role is focused on:

• Designing developing and deploying solutions and handson software development working closely with leads designers and product managers to deliver features and experiments to our customers worldwide
• Bringing new ideas to the table concerning everything from feature development process improvement and product suggestions.
• Developing and iterating on technical proposals outlining how solutions will be structured and developed.
• Developing solutions youve designed from the ground up through to deployment into production.
• Providing oncall support as part of a rotation with the team
• Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks within the application and broader infrastructure.
• Performance debugging benchmarking and building great services in general.

Youre probably a match if...

• You have commercial experience developing complex web applications
• You have expert knowledge of Java
• You have experience developing APIs with backend web frameworks
• We run on AWS so you would have a working knowledge of the platform
• You have firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency multithreading data structures solution design architecture and design patterns
• You enjoy be leading by example promoting Canvas values noblame mentality and inclusive culture.

Optional but any of the following are a huge plus:

• Experience with TypeScript (or other typed languages) React MobX (or other state management libraries)
• Knowledge or experience aligning with security best practice & activities such as threat modelling
• Experience with implementing authentication/authorisation specifications as a client or identity provider (OAuth/OIDC a bonus)
• Experience designing easy to use APIs with versioning

With the proliferation of innovations in generative AI and as large organizations have increasingly complex workflows to manage their designs Canva is well poised to become the platform that simplifies access and discovery of services related to visual design. We are already working with hundreds of developers to enable access to these exciting products with our Apps SDK and Canva public REST API!

As one of the teams in Ecosystem the Platform Asset & User Capabilities team grants app developers the ability to integrate with external systems through auth flows as well as import assets from these services.
