306 - Centering Technician I

SUMMARY

Centering is an operation in which a lens is precision ground to the finish diameter. The centering machine resembles a small lathe. The centering technicians are responsible for setting up the machine loading and running lenses and check the finish product. Some mechanical ability is required for setting up the machine. Technicians use precision measuring instruments to check their work. The job requires attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal instruction.

Centering Technician I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee.

Centering Technician II – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision.

• Scanning parts
• Identification and routing of parts
• Use and care of mikes indicators eye loupes calipers
• Dimensional checks
• Calibration Awareness
• Identification of lens types and sides
• Surface quality awareness
• Runout/focal checks on pearl microscope
• Nonconforming product disposition
• Selection of cleaning racks
• B10 operation and could include setup
• B11 operation and could include setup
• WG operation and could include setup
• LZ operation and could include setup
• Lathe operation
• CNC operation and could include setup
• Setup and use of sag gauges

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to understand speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is generally standing at a machine using hands and fingers to handle parts. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee must be able to see up close in order to check quality of work.
