Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. Buddhist Religious Program Leader

1.1 Required Qualifications

1.1.1. The Program leader shall be a United States citizen.

1.1.2. The Program leader will be an established leader of a Buddhist Sangha or

Church fully authorized to teach the Dharma perform Buddhist religious services and provide individual spiritual guidance.

1.1.3. The Program leader shall be an ordained Buddhist Monk Sensei Nun Geshe Bhikkhu or have equivalent Buddhist Lay Ordination training and must have been granted the authority to teach the Dharma by a fully ordained Buddhist clergyperson. Program leader must maintain training and requirements for authority to teach the Dharma.

1.1.4. The Program leader will have a minimum of 10 years of Buddhist training as well as experience in leading and developing a community of practice including collegeaged individuals.

1.1.5. The Program leader shall have knowledge and expertise in the area of Buddhist ethical training and character development.

1.1.6. The Program leader shall live in the Colorado Springs area or within 50mile commuting distance.

1.2. Performance Requirements

1.2.1. Provide lead and administer meditation liturgy rites and programs to meet the Buddhist religious needs of the USAF Academy community through: 85 meditations/teachings that include a halfhour period of individual spiritual direction/consultation following service. The services will be held during the academic school year with 10 meditations or teaching to be held throughout the summer season.

1.2.2. 12 services during Basic Cadet Training (BCT is generally the last week of June through the first week of August)

1.2.3. Maintain and provide information regarding Buddhist temples and communities in the Pikes Peak region.

1.2.4. Develop supervise and provide religious education through the Special Programs in Religious Education (SPIRE) program. This may be done in conjunction with meditation and teaching services with approval from Branch Chief Cadet Faith Communities.

1.2.5. Recruit identify and vet potential speakers of local and national stature for a yearly speaker series open to cadets and the community at large. Must coordinate with the Branch Chief Cadet Faith

Communities Deputy Wing Chaplain and Wing Chaplain for final approval.

1.2.6. Support the planning publicity and promotion of all Buddhist Cadet Religious Activities.

1.2.7. Serve as the point of contact for chaplains on Buddhist religious issues.

1.2.8. Coordinate and attend occasional gatherings in support of faith group community building as requested.

1.2.9. Attend and facilitate an annual threeday weekend retreat from Friday to Sunday for Buddhist cadets. Plan and perform all logistical coordination and advertisement for the annual retreat for Air Force Academy Buddhist Cadets. Retreats will be funded by CTOF or GIFT Funds to include food lodging and transpiration. The Program leader shall submit Scheduling Committee Actions (SCA) requests for the retreat in writing at least 3 months in advance of the requested SCA date (email is preferred) in coordination with the Branch Chief of Cadet Faith Communities. All SCA requests must be approved first by the Branch Chief of Cadet Faith Communities. Forward all SCA requests to the Cadet Chapel Scheduling Committee Representative. No retreats are to be conducted on Silver weekends. Silver weekends schedules shall be provided to the Program leader. SCA requests shall include:

1.2.9.1. Name of group and name of the retreat

1.2.9.2. Location of retreat

1.2.9.3. Time and date cadets will be leaving the Cadet Area and returning to the Cadet Area.

1.2.9.4. Point of Contact or Escort for retreat

1.2.9.5. Method of transportation (i.e. commercial bus personally owned vehicles etc.)

1.2.9.6. Funding source utilized

1.2.9.7. Submit a retreat talking paper and draft a copy of a staff summary sheet (IAW AFH 33337 The Tongue and Quill)

1.2.9.8. If uniform is required during the retreat and which uniform if so.

1.2.9.9. Number of cadets expected to attend listed by class (e.g. 10 four degrees 5 two degrees etc.)

1.2.9.10. General overview of the intent content and speakers for the retreat.

1.2.10. Provide input and support for interfaith activities through participation in the Cadet InterReligious Council.

1.2.11. Serve as a resource for staff of other military chapel programs regarding religious accommodation and programming for Buddhists.

1.2.12. Serve as advisor to AF/HC regarding Air Force Chaplain Corps Buddhist Program matters.

1.2.13. Plan organize and implement a Buddhist Baccalaureate service for graduating cadets each May.

1.2.14. Report monthly total attendance for all Buddhist events utilizing the Air Force Chaplain Corps Reporting System (AFCCARS).

1.3. Office Hours for Buddhist Religious Program Leader. Hours of Operations will be to perform responsibilities 10 hours per week Sunday through Saturday.

The schedule may be adjusted to meet requirements for duties outside the normal 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. duty day. In addition consult with the USAF Academy Wing Chaplain for required support. Be available during weekdays from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for meetings trainings and status updates as requested by the Wing Chaplain.
