Job Description

ABOUT OATH:

The City of New Yorks Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) is the nations largest administrative tribunal holding approximately 400000 trials and hearings a year. As the Citys central independent administrative law court OATH adjudicates a wide range of matters filed by nearly every city agency board and commission. OATH also houses the Center for Creative Conflict Resolution which provides mediation and restorative justice support to City government agencies and the general public and the Administrative Judicial Institute a resource center that provides training continuing education research and support services for administrative law judges and hearing officers.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The City of New Yorks Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) is the nations largest administrative tribunal holding over 400000 trials and hearings a year. OATH is an independent central administrative law court with two divisions: The OATH Trials Division and The OATH Hearings Division. The OATH Trials Division adjudicates a wide range of complex matters referred by City agencies. OATHs Hearings Division conducts hearings on summonses including health safety and quality of life matters that are filed by 17 different City agencies. OATH Hearings are conducted by Hearing Officers.

OATHs Clerks Office seeks to hire a fulltime Clerical Associate to work in the Queens Tribunal to process and collect all fines and fees. The Clerical Associate works under supervision with latitude for independent judgment and performs moderately difficult clerical and related work. Specific duties will include but are not limited to:

Answer customer questions regarding account status acceptable forms of payment and other related issues
Process cash checks money orders credit/debit card payments received from respondents at the Cashier Windows
Enter updated summonses and fees into automated system
Handle a large amount of money and reconcile payments with all transaction receipts at the end of their shift
Assist in all aspects of processing cases efficiently and perform other related clerical duties
Record and reconcile daily lockbox receipts


Special Note:
Only candidates currently serving in a NYC agency as a permanent Clerical Associate or who are currently reachable on the NYC civil service list should apply.


Qualifications :

Qualification Requirements
A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
