Role: Substation Control Design Engineer 1 SCDE1
Location: 3535 Colonnade Parkway Birmingham AL 35243)
Duration: Long Term Contract
Job Description:
- The Substation Control Engineer 1 position requires 05 years of related experience and an accredited bachelors degree in engineering (electrical engineering preferred) or professional engineer license.
- This position is responsible for Southern Companys Transmission and Distribution Substations design.
- The position is responsible for providing engineering drawings specifications and material requirements for substation projects emphasizing safety quality scheduling and costs
This position requires approximately 25% travel.
Job responsibilities include creating a safe work environment by putting safety first understand the process used for substation control planning design operation construction and maintenance understanding the functions and activities of various internal departments involved in substation design construction and maintenance understanding substation design practices and work processes using all software applications used in substation design understanding NESC and Southern Company design standards supporting design standard and criteria development for the system
supporting construction and maintenance teams during daytoday operations and during emergency restoration of failed equipment estimating material for transmission projects transmitting construction packages and supporting specifications.
Skillsets and expertise required for this position include introductory engineering knowledge basic problemsolving skills limited discretion making independent decisions based on procedure and review with supervisor basic understanding of Control Design tools and applications (AutoCAD Electrical TEAMS Stomps SCST Vault Maximo) strong work ethic positive attitude and the ability to build effective relationships with plant staff design engineering staff and/or vendors
