Job Description
At Wise were not just developing a product; were redefining the financial landscape. As a Senior Software Engineer in the Connect team you will be at the heart of this transformation entrusted with complex critical tasks that play a direct role in the way Wises (hundreds of distributed) microservices communicate and discover each other and how requests get proxied to the correct destination. Youll be leading work that has a direct impact on the scalability of our services and be a technical mentor for your peers.
Specifically our team:
develops and operates Wises Envoybased service mesh on top of Kubernetes and an inhouse built control plane
owns the primary routing points for public or nonpublic connections into and out of Wises infrastructure
implements and maintains tooling that provides workload identity encryption and network connectivity controls
provides secret management solutions for the Kubernetes clusters

What will you be working on
Help drive complex initiatives that scale maintain and evolve a variety of backend and infrastructure services from the service mesh to our secret management service across multiple environments
Reduce complexity and toil by identifying bottlenecks and improving system efficiency
Ensure critical system upgrades and maintenance
Run our infrastructure with Terraform and Kubernetes in AWS
Participate in a team oncall rotation
Collaborate with the security team on strengthening our security posture
Mentor teammates and work closely with the Staff engineer on the teams technical roadmap.
Qualifications :
We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you!
Proficient in Go
Production experience of building operating and scaling microservices in a cloud environment such as AWS or GCP.
Good working knowledge of Linux and a scripting language such as Bash
Experience with infrastructure and distributed systems and a desire to learn
Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes (preferred) or Nomad
Nice to have:
Experience with other object languages such as Java is a plus
Experience with data intensive applications and high availability
Familiarity or interest in networking
