Job Description

Position:  Cook Full Time

Unit: Islington Seniors Shelter

Point of Hire Location: Etobicoke ON

Current Shifts: 5:30am1:30pm & 9:00am5:00pm (subject to change)

Wage: $19.22 $20.00/hour


Qualifications :

You are an experienced cook who enjoys working in a team environment ensuring high quality results and meeting food safety HACCP and OHS standards.

During your mandate it will be your responsibility to support the Chef in the execution of daily activities defined for our client contract regarding all food service offerings. You will use your skills to help create an excellent food service offering for the clients and guests of this site.

  • Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing seasoning cooking tasting carving and serving soups meats vegetables and other items for consumption in dining areas.
  • Prepares foods under direct supervision or instruction by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients washing peeling cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables and trimming and cutting meat poultry or fish for culinary use.
  • Tastes products reads menus checks production and keeps records to accurately plan production requirements.
  • Cleans and sanitize workstations and equipment and must follow all Sodexo client and regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Move and lift foodstuffs and supplies and prepare meals for customers requiring special diets.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Attends all allergy and foodborne illness inservice training.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • You will be required to follow the various Sodexo programs: Food Safety Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and Marketing.

You have a minimum of 12 years experience in a similar role excellent customer service and teamwork skills. Strong planning organizational and time management skills as well as computer skills (Word Excel Outlook etc.). You are able to work under pressure and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures. Graduate from a recognized culinary institute is required.
