Job Description

SUMMARY

The coating operator typically loads parts into a highvacuum coating machine and monitors machine instrumentation during the coating process. Operator then removes parts form the machine and ensures that parts conform to specification using spectrophotometer and other appropriate testing devices. Operator then deblocks parts from fixtures and routes parts accordingly. Operators perform routine scheduled maintenance and cleaning of the machines. This job is moderately technical and requires close attention to detail. This job is in a cleanroom environment and clean room apparel is required.

Coating Operator I – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform with guidance and training during the first few years of employment. There will be some positions that will continue to be this level when set ups and adjustments are not made by the employee.

Coating Operator II – All of the essential duties and responsibilities listed below would be expected for an employee to perform at a confident proficient level in 2 or more years of experience. This would include setting up and making adjustments with minimal supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily after completing the initial training. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Regular and punctual attendance is required
  • Overtime hours may be required if needed
  • Prepares machines for coating process and loads parts into machines.
  • Maintains constant awareness of multiple interdependent factors and their interaction in the coating process.
  • Records all pertinent information onto log sheets.
  • Unloads coater following process.
  • Use spectrophotometers and computer software to determine that coatings meet specifications.
  • Save spectral graphs to file with pertinent information accurately.
  • Performs routine maintenance disassembles and assembles machines and components.
  • Calculates various parameters for coating runs from previously recorded data.
  • Troubleshoots basic electrical circuits.
  • Interpret graphs and documentation
  • Exercise extreme care in handling optical materials and in caring for the equipment operated.
  • Perform repetitive tasks requiring exacting and continuous mental and visual concentration in a consistent manner.
  • Demonstrate mechanical ability
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Work effectively without direct supervision.
  • Work well with others in close proximity as well as with others in different departments
  • Recommends changes as needed.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to understand speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform mathematical calculations using formulas conversions and ratios.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is generally required to stand; use hands to handle tooling. The employee is occasionally required to walk and stoop. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Employee must be able to see up close in order to check quality of work. Employee has to be able to perform maintenance on the inside of the coating machines which is a tight confine area.

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position because a person working in this position under the influence of drugs or alcohol including medical marijuana may constitute a threat to health or safety which includes but is not limited to working with hazardous or flammable materials operating repairing maintaining or monitoring machinery or motor vehicles.

Some equipment used in this area contains a strong magnetic field that could interfere with certain medical devices.
