Reports to: Senior Manager Anatomic Pathology 
Grade: C0:10
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $35.93 $41.37 per hour. Start rate nonnegotiable
Shifts: All Shifts 24/7
Status: Permanent Full Time

As an integral member of the Laboratory team the Technician V (Advanced Laboratory Technician) performs a variety of support functions under a medical directive.

Duties

  • Performing limited preanalytic analytic and post analytic tasks in assigned areas using accepted safety practices
  • Following established procedures and guidelines; preparing handling and dispensing tubes/reagents
  • Performs limited embedding and microtomy
  • Performs limited reagent maintenance 
  • Performs limited instrument maintenance and escalates aberrant errors appropriately 
  • Monitors control/reagent inventory
  • Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality 

Qualifications :

  • At minimum completion of high school additional program 1 year and over in Laboratory Technician Laboratory Assistant Diploma (or higher MLP) from an accredited institution or completion of the discipline specific degree or micro credential or recognized equivalent 
  • Minimum 2 years related practical and related experience in histology and/or immunohistochemistry 
  • Certification from CSMLS MLPAO or agency recognized by the Laboratory Licensing Branch of the Ministry of Health of the Province of Ontario required
  • Completion of 30 hours of professional continuing education per year
  • Computer literate in Windows based applications
  • Experience working in a health care environment
  • Experience with the Epic HIS/Beaker Application is an asset
  • Very good customer service interpersonal and telephone skills
  • Good organizational time management and prioritization skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under stress situations
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance and operation 
  • Knowledge is sterile and aseptic conditions as required by assigned area
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Professional liability insurance
