Roles and responsibilities

Aman Hospital is one of Qatar’s leading healthcare providers, offering cutting-edge services with a focus on quality care and patient satisfaction. We are expanding our Eye Care and Orthoptic Unit and are looking for a highly skilled Optometrist with Orthoptist Experience to join our team and help us deliver exceptional services to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive eye exams and visual assessments, diagnosing refractive errors, eye diseases, and binocular vision problems.
• Diagnose and manage conditions such as strabismus (misaligned eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), and other binocular vision disorders using orthoptic techniques.
• Prescribe corrective lenses, vision therapy, and other treatment plans to improve patients’ vision and eye coordination.
• Work closely with ophthalmologists and other healthcare providers to provide integrated care for patients with complex eye conditions.
• Provide patient education regarding eye health, vision correction, and post-treatment care.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, ensuring compliance with medical standards and hospital policies.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in optometry and orthoptics and implement best practices in patient care.
• Detecting Eye Diseases
  Screen for early signs of eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
  Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists for more advanced treatment when necessary.
  Patient Education and Counseling
  Educate patients about proper eye care, nutrition, and lifestyle choices to protect their vision.
  Advise on how to reduce eye strain, such as tips for computer use and proper lighting.
  Counsel on the correct use and care of contact lenses.
  Managing Eye Health and Wellness
  Recommend lifestyle changes or treatment options for conditions like dry eye or eye allergies.
  Monitor eye health, especially for patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of eye disease.
  . Using Diagnostic Tools and Technology
  Utilize advanced equipment, such as retinal cameras, visual field testers, and optical coherence tomography (OCT), to diagnose and monitor eye conditions.
  Perform tests like tonometry (to measure eye pressure) and pupillary reflex tests.

Desired candidate profile

Bachelor’s degree in Optometry from a recognized institution.
Orthoptist experience with expertise in diagnosing and treating binocular vision disorders (such as strabismus, amblyopia, etc.).
At least 3-5 years of clinical experience as an optometrist, with a strong background in orthoptics.
Valid Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) license or eligibility to obtain licensure in Qatar.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide compassionate and professional patient care.
Fluency in English (Arabic language skills are an advantage).
Conducting Eye Examinations
Perform comprehensive eye exams to assess visual acuity and determine the overall health of the eyes.
Use various diagnostic tools and techniques to detect common vision issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
Diagnosing Vision Problems
Evaluate symptoms and determine the causes of vision problems, such as refractive errors, eye diseases, or neurological conditions.
Diagnose and manage conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eyes.
Prescribing Corrective Lenses
Based on exam results, prescribe glasses or contact lenses to correct vision problems.
Recommend appropriate lenses or contact lenses based on the patient’s lifestyle, preferences, and specific visual needs.
Providing Pre- and Post-Surgical Care
Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients who undergo eye surgeries, such as LASIK or cataract surgery.
Monitor recovery and manage any complications or side effects.
